Already had to tow a family members old 1995 Cat through some rough terrain. Rider sat on Cat and steered while I towed him with 12 Apex XTX. Not sure what the combined weight was. Any opinions on potentail "towing vehicle" damage caused from towning other sleds especially towing using the Apex?

Thank you

Should not be a problem at all towing with an Apex. The only thing I do when towing someone is I change the belt & put an old one on. Towing is hard on belts & substantially decreases the life of them.

Next time tie the tow rope from one ski through your bumper and tie to the other ski. Then have him ride with you, a lot easier pulling empty sled (with the belt removed) IMHO.

X2 as little weight on the tow sled as possible...

My Apex has towed several blown up Ski Don't XP 800's. Take the belt off of the sled being towed and tie the rope to the ski loop as others have mentioned and pull the sled without a rider. In deep snow you may ruin a belt but on hardpack you will be fine.

Luckily I had purchased the Steadymate 15543 Snowmobile Tow Strap. It worked great.

That is a great idea thank you for that.

Another great Idea thank you.

If anyone has any more ideas please post. I'm sure I will be towing again soon.

I towed my buddies cat after he hit a tree 10 miles through hilly trails with him on it because he had to lean to keep the weight off the right side of the sled.Ripped the whole right suspension off his sled when he hit the tree. He was lucky and lucky he had a yammie in his group to tow his arse back to the hotel. Only thing was it finished off my 2000 mile belt. Other than that towed it like a diesel. You"ll be fine, just inspect your belt very closely for signs of overheat.

Nice tips...I'll do it next time. But I would recommend someone ride it down hills so it doesn't roll into the back of the tow sled.

I towed my buddies 600etec 75 miles after his motor blew at 2k miles. Got another 3,000 miles on that belt after I towed him to boot!

note the sled being towed on the box is Yellow?

Another trick I've seen is to tie the front of the dead sled to the back of the tow sled. So when riding down a hill you won't need someone on the read sled and the back one tows right in-line with no steering issues. This I've seen done in the mountains.

X2, I don't think I'd tow a sled unless there was a rider on it to be able to hit the brakes.

Engine temp will go up slightly pulling a sled, and low speeds. The Towbuddy will be the next purchase for me.looks to make towing a sled real easy going for sure!
