That was going to be my next question. Anyone have any theories as to why my pipes would be bad after 4,000 miles or so. That does not make sense.

Item # 4 in the picture below are the donuts.

My #4 cylinder needed a new exhaust donut every 2000-4000 miles on my 05 RX-1.

Now that I've looked at my exhaust with the motor out I can see the cup at the end of the pipe is missing material (the end of #13 in your diagram). I don't know if it was a manufacturing defect or if it somehow wore over the miles. My dealer never changed the pipe, just kept changing the donuts over and over.

When mine leaked (most of the time) I could hear a minor exhaust tick under the hood and the exhaust would pop on deceleration. The leak was getting quite loud at the end though.

Here's a picture of the pipe:

Yes that would be hard to seal.

How come you have the motor out?never mind I see in your signature #4 rod.

Maybee I should have gotten the extended warranty.

My Yfz 450 quad sits in my garage with the # 1 rod through the bottom of the case,Id hate to see what It would cost to fix the same problem in my sled.

Here's a better picture.

Believe me you don't want to have to pay a Canadian dealer to rebuild an RX-1 motor with a thrown rod.

My 2007 RTX is experiencing the exact same symptoms as mdkuni's sled. The sled is less than 1 year old and has only 2800 miles on it. The sled sounds totally different. Luckily I have the 5 year YES warranty.
