Apex better cornering?

Limiter strap in first set of holes. Transfer rod has 16mm of threads showing with lock nut set and A-arms level. I also need a new bump stop as you can see in the pic.

My a-arms are level or close to it. The 75-80 psi is with the weight of the sled on them not shure what that would convert to with unweighted. I tried the lower psi (50-55psi) and I bottom the front end out all the time, I can't even hold onto the handle bars when it gets rough at that low setting. I agree with what you say Rockerdan, but most of the trails I ride are rough.

Always adjust the air in the shock whit the suspension unloaded, that the way they suggest in the fox float book.If you want good cornering, put a set of these on your stock ski. It's call SNOWTRACKER,i never ad something that good.Bite hard,no darting and easy steer.

Will pulling the limiter strap up on hole help on the GT also. I have the front springs set up with no preload. With the transfer rod set almost to min, the sled handles great. Problem is I would like more transfer when I need it. Can I pull up the limiter strap and then set my transfer rod for more transfer

I have a 13mm sway bar and move the limited strap up one, losen the front preloat to pioneers specs (i think he wrote 10.25") and I have the transfer set to the "std" possision...problem is I get no ski lift when accelerration and just spin

I don't have stock ski's welterracer. USI project X ski's. Where is the stock setting on the strap? It was in the 2nd set of holes. I am also in the prosses of shimming my ski's. My psi unweighted was 32 psi. Also has any one tried the tcs ski's that partsunlimited sell

there is no way to bottom out the floats at anything over 30lbs....the way they are made it just wont allow for it,i know it FEELS like its bottoming but they just get stiff as hell when compressed....

Dan, it really depends on the way you ride. At 30psi, mine definitely feel like they are bottoming and they definitely ride rough. I'm not certain what is inside these shocks, but it feels like there is some sort of rubber bumper that comes into action when close to bottoming out and of course at that point the air is well compressed too so any further compression is very firm - too firm for me anyway.

Believe it or not, I am running my floats at 75 psi and I'm happy with the performance with them there. Anything less than about 60psi and I find them too soft. I don't like the harshness that I experience when hitting bumps with lower pressure in the shocks.

To help keep the center of gravity down and control body roll, I have my center shock preload very low (just loose fully extended) and my limiter straps tightened by 2 holes.

My control arms are not parallel, but the front isn't up as high as it would be if you put 75psi in yours.

With this setup, I don't know anyone who can keep up with me on tight twisty trails. The tighter and twistier the trail, the farther I pull ahead. This includes REVs, REV-XPs and other older, lower Skidoos as well as other Apex ERs.

I do have a lot of ski pressure, but I don't mind the heavier steering for the overall performance.

Rockerdan do you know what the stock setting on the strap was? I bought this sled used so i'm not shure if it was ever changed.

I totally agree with a number of these set ups. My RTX is running @ 30 psi, limiter up one, and the front skid shock real loose. My control rod nuts are set so I cant see any thread, I can just see the red marks, I think I'll try backing them off a couple of turns to help as Nate suggests to give myself just a little ski lift. I'm using the pipe mod under the stock skis and this has helped considerably. The 13mm bar has helped but I'll have to say it's most likely the lowered front floats. I just picked up a brand new set of yellow Pilots today. Anyone know if I have to do any retooling on the rubber block?? DOUG

REx....

Ive run mine at 65lbs and nearly flipped it onto its side..LOL,i could barely ride it in these muskoka twistys without massive skilift....went down to 45 same trail,HUGE difference....like a different sled really....

then i ran it down at 25lbs....where is was below level, and WOW,it was litterally like a gokart,slotcar....so i keep it at about 35-40 generally, for overal trails..ive pounded thru some rough stuff, and have never bottomed, they compress down and get real stiff.

I was abit miffed about these shocks from the get go....so i actually got a tech to talk to from fox.....the person i spoke to,told me the floats dont change stiffness untill you get them way up over 60 or so lbs...there is no bump stop at bottom, but the airbag just compresses and wont allow it to bottom(unless you are really low).

they are about the trickest shocks ive ever had,before....i just love them.

its amazing how every inch or so of height makes HUGE differences in handling....

im sure alot depends on trails you ride on...but i dont know anyone who runs them over 40 and likes them, everytime i see apexs on the trail with A arms sitting tall,i ask them if it ski lifts, and always get same answer, its horrible....i then proceed to set them up Level, and they all come back smiling....

But im sure to each his own here, maybe your riding style is different or you ride huge moguls that need more travel?

Dan
