Was riding today, when error code 46 came on. Sled ran fine but needed to be boosted when turned off. Rode the rest of day ,code flashed intermittantly and a few times would not require to be boosted. The only thing real goofy was the H.id lights would dim or blink left and right like police lites. I searched the code and noticed a lot of posts on it, a lot of guys with the problem never posted back with the fix? So I will start checking things tomorrow, however has there been a sure fire fix? There was heavy snow today could something have gotten wet causing a short? The battery is 6 years old, but noone seems to have said that was the problem.

O.K followed all the testing and suggestions already found on TY, the stator passed the OHM test, and the Voltage test at 3000 rpm....when cold. All the grounds and wiring checked out, even took the engine starter apart and cleaned it(it was dirty!! I suggest everyone do this, it's easy when u r in there changing your filter anyways)After a lenghty testing procedure of plugging and unplugging and swapping the HID lights with stock, unplugging and operating power steering, and exup the sled was good and hot. The sled was on the volt meter the whole time and charging somewhat, once warm the charge voltage had dropped to around 12v, so I double checked the stator voltage under load and the it was putting out way different voltage from the 3 pins on the plug. Problem solved took the stator out and it had 4 poles char broiled black.
Last question...can something cause this or is just part of the snowmobiling adventure?
thanks for all the help TY, great site
