I have the drive axle off my 18 Apex so here is a picture of said collar. I would also tend to agree with sideshowBob in that I'm surprised you haven't been loosing chain case oil.

Are those 7 x 2.86 drivers on your 2018 Apex or 8 x 2.86

I was able to drill the shaft with the COBALT extended length drill bit. I went into the shaft about 3/16 and put a liquid locking agent on the threads. I am sure this will eliminate the walking issue. Tried up upload photos but could not do so.

8 x 2.86. Yamaha didn't offer the 146" in the 1.25" track in 18 so swapped the Backcountry and with a Ripsaw II and in doing so, also replaced the drivers. Just didn't feel comfortable with that tall of lug with the trail riding I do. However, I did keep the Backcountry and 7" drivers as was thinking about ordering another drive axle to be able to swap out but never did so.

Case is different from 09 and earlier. Side case cover ,
09 or 10 up holds the entire end , helps with slop etc I believe they also have a slightly bigger shaft too .
Lots to remember on these things ..
That may be true but even the 06 Apex's have that collar that supposed to butt up to the bearing and oil seal in the rear half of the chain case:

I think you guys are 100% right!. I looked a stock APEX and there is a collar with set screws on the chaincase side. Can't tell if mine is missing but there never was an oil leak. Rather than take it completely apart I thing the quick fix I did will hold until I do take it apart again. Will keep you posted.

If we are talking about the drive shaft(lower shaft), then that collar you are refering to is probably the one that holds the plastic driver from walking outwards. Nothing to do with holding the shaft.I think you guys are 100% right!. I looked a stock APEX and there is a collar with set screws on the chaincase side. The collar on the left side locks the bearing to the shaft, nothing else. The drive shaft is aligned by the chain case side. That is why you always tighten the lower gear first and lock the left side bearing last.
Sounds like the problem lies with the aftermarket shaft.

Stain, I wonder if he was also refering to the collar(not bearing) that prevents the drivers from moving outwards. The collar on the left side locks the bearing to the shaft, nothing else. Agreed ^and in addition, the front suspension swing arm should be bolted in place before tightening the set screws on the left side axle bearing collar, as the suspension swing arm sets the tunnel pitch/width dimension, you don't want the tunnel putting side load on that bearing.

They are all correct, the chain case holds the driveshaft in place not the left bearing and set screws. I would not just let it go with what you did, you will continue to cause concerns in the chain case. Tear it down and look at the parts break down see what is missing, it really is not a bad job to pull the cover. It could be the aftermarket driveshaft, possible not machined properly? The bolt they are referring too would break and wear a hole into the side cover, happened to my buddy's RX.
Check out the video Tom did on the Apex track swap at the 1:04:33 point on the driveshaft bearing set screws, it is the chain case that hold the driveshaft in place not the bearing set screws.
