I really wanted to love the 4 stroke, because that is what it had going for it and especially why I snow checked it....
I'm not brand loyal, but Yamaha needs to copy the very forward riding style of the REV and lose 75 lbs...
Black Rev 800X, doo you hear that ticking noise? thats your Rotax engine counting down to the day she blows! I hope for your sake your close to home and not on a vacation with it because nothing ruins a vacation better then the sound of a Rotax going down
As a guy whos had 2 canadian vacations in 3 yrs ruined by Rotax I say AMEN!!! The Apex tows a ski doo like no other sled Ive ridden, and got better milege than a Fusion 600 doing it. The ski doo did get better mileage than both while on the dead end of the rope.

MrSled said:Tork, its not BS...I get 13.5 on my GT and as good as 14.5...so its the truth but my point has been posted and I really dont see what a rev rider would post here...if you like your rev, go drive it and may I suggest try a Doo site for your support and not here...is that so tough to understand.
Did not state my point clear enough. 13.5-14.5 no problem ridden aggressively, and you have said you are 260 with gear on. Problem is I cant see the REV getting 18 ridden the same way.
Black REV 800 x said:I'm on this forum because I snowchecked a GT! I was trying to gain some insight! I bought it, and then sold it for the reasons stated. The Apex is not going to get great mileage. I got 16 with the REV last weekend. Just facts! Now I'm getting angry because you're the big BS'er here. Are you so blinded by your brand you can't understand that others are equal or maybe better in some areas? Why even bring up weight of the Fusion and Z - The REV is 75 plus lbs less!
See now it is 16 MPG. I have no problem believing that the REV gets better mileage, just keep it real so the numbers can be believed.
No.......... many things I do like about the REV, I really like the responsive steering for example although I didn't at first because it felt twitchy. And Apex weight is right in there with the sleds it competes with.
I am going on a 4-5 day bagger trip starting tomorrow. In 700-1000 miles I wont even have to open my hood. Last year on a trip like that a day of it was ruined because a REV 800 that was riding with us SEIZED the motor.....and I am being kind when I say the oil smell is awful that BRP uses.
You are posting with an exclusive group here that overall feel any compromise involved with a Y 4 stroke is more than worth it. So the attitude that REV is better holds true with us only in smaller ways.

This thread sounds like an argument I try to avoid everytime I ride with a guy I know who has been a Ski Doo loyalist. Everything about his sled is perfect and there's always something your sled that makes his better in that particular way. I've learned to just ignore it. It was really embarrassing to have his 600 SDI stay tied with me on my RX up to 75 mph from a dead stop though. Man that was humiliating.
Anyway, I rode his REV and didn't like it. The unrefined growl of the two-stroke was enough to make me appreciate my RX despite all its shortcomings. Also, it was TOO far rider forward. The front end felt twitchy and I almost went off the trail trying to negotiate a turn. While it had something like 120 hp and could run with my RX below 75, it felt slow. The 4 stroke torque was sorely missed on it.
Point is, there are sleds that match each person and their riding style. If this guy finds a REV more comfortable so be it. I don't think he gave his GT enough of a chance, personally, to do any real comparison. 300 miles and giving up? That's not enough time to adjust to a totally different brand, forget a sled as different as a GT compared to a REV. That's the reason I don't a lot into what he typed. Ride that GT a full season, then maybe you can have some legitimacy.

you should put up a poll for gas milage to see how everyone average's out.

I to am a brand loyal Yamaha guy, but I do see good in other sleds. I ride with alot of Revs, anyone that rides, rides with revs (BRP sold alot of them). I have switched with them and let them ride my GT and I their rev. The rev ride and handling varys from sled to sled and what year it is makes a difference as well. I don't like the full rider forward, it's not for me. Most of the rev riders truely enjoy riding my GT and have good things to say about it, with the exception of my brother in-law. I haven't had to tow a rev home YET! .... and hope I never doo. As far as gas milage goes this is a dumb discussion it's all in the conditions, riding style, mods, weight of rider, set-up, etc..... My friends 600 SDI doesn't do much better than my GT if I ride like him. So now lets throw in the cost of the BRP stink oil and add that to the gas milage discussion. Last weekend there were only 2 of us with 4 strokes and we could not ride behind the 2 smokes, our eyes watered and it gives you a headache. I just don't understand how these sdi sleds can be EPA compliant and still be puting so much stink in the air. Black rev has his opinion and I have mine, but if he was at my camp, him and his riding gear get sprayed down with fabreeze before entering the sanctuary we call camp. LOL

2006 Apex GT
Last Thursaday rode from Pittsburg, NH to Oquossoc, ME... 70 Miles. Filled up at Koobs Gas Station, took 3.8 gallons. My math reads 18.4 mpg. I'm very happy. Another rider with me was running a Polaris 4-Stroke Turbo. He got 14.7. I have about 100 lbs on the Pol rider... (snickers)

I think Doo gets the SDI to meet EPA by running it so lean on the oil that it blows up at 5000 miles. Tell me if I am wrong.
I had to correct a friend of mine who was trying to tell me that four strokes need more maintenance. He was under the impression that our Yammis need valve adjustments every 2500 miles. I corrected him. It's every 25000 miles. I then told him that I never had to do anything to my RX in nearly 7000 miles.
I am trying to get him to buy an Apex. Cost is an issue for him though. He rode mine and loves it.
