I have a low mileage 2006 APEX GT that seems to have a tight steering column. I disconnected the tie rods at the steering arm and the bars still have a noticeable tightness, actually it makes a squeak when turned. A couple of questions: why would it be tight? how much disassembly to get to what might be the cause?
A few places to check but unfortunately some disassembly is required.
There are two bushings between the gauge cluster and gas tank. One at your right knee when sitting on the sled, one behind the oil tank and two "bell cranks" or idler arms under the battery.
I would look at the one at your right knee first.
I agree with steiner. The 2 bearings blocks on the upper steering post get very dry. I replaced mine with the aftermarket aluminum blocks that are self lubricating and much higher quality. The white urethane bushing on the side post also gets dry. A dab of the proper lube on these items will go a long way. But of course if your sled is a high mileage unit the rod ends may need inspection and/or replacement as well.
