I have been looking at picking up a used Apex a few years old now that the prices are getting down there. I know the first couple years they offered the RTX version with the CK rear skid and Fox Floats.
What other things were different on this model?
Were they geared down more?
How about the CK skid verses the mono skid? Pros and Cons?
I know that skid has two shocks vs. the one of the mono.
Does it transfer as good, ride better or worse, top speeds different, more or less hyfax wear?
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks

What year u looking at? 2006 rtx is mono with 24 gear. I THUNK 2007 came with ck skid and 22? Gear Fox floats in the front are great. Adjust them with the skis off the ground, I set mine at 62 psi. Get rid of the skis and put ulmer air box on it

The 2007-2009 RTX's had a lower windshield, were geared down, Fox floats on the front, and CK rear suspension.
The 2006 RTX was basically a standard Apex with Fox floats on the front.

personally if i did it all over again i wouldnt get my 09 rtx again if i had the choice. i got a pretty good deal on it when i got it new. i find that with this skid, if there is any loose snow at all i don't hook up 100%. doesn't take many bumps very well at all either. its a very stiff chassis. ive spent hours both on here and trying different setups but get the same result.i know some will say its a rough trail sled, but i find it doesn't handle the rough very well at all. as far speed it hauls a&# and i love the way it handle in the corners.i changed my gearing as i wanted top end and would give up a little on the bottom. i went through my first set of sliders within 250 miles so changed them and also but an extra wheel kit on and that has done wonders. i ride with a couple buddies that have the mono skid and they are a totally different weapon.
Thanks

OK, that was what I was wondering about the ride of the CK. I know this was the version Corey Davidson rode when the Apex was legally sanctioned to run ISOC and the Soo 500. All of the Apex models I have spent any amount of time on have had the mono skid in them. I took a 2007 Rtx for spin down the ditches in the UP of Michigan (Pat's Motorsports). It belonged to a customer, had a cold air kit which changes the exhaust tone (sounded like a header on a bike). It seemed fast and sporty, kind of a stiffer ride. My intentions would be to 136 kit it anyways and I am not sure how that would be with that skid either. I really should just look for an ATTAK model or LTX.

If you want a plusher ride, mono is the way to go, if you want a lumber wagon ride, go with the older version of the CK. My 2006 Attak rides way nicer than my 2007 RTX even before I re-valved the mono to a triple stack.
BTW, my Attak is my all time favorite sled thus far. Was going to get a new XTX but bought a new quad instead, can't afford both, besides, the Mrs would kill me, lol!!! Better ride than the RTX & comes with the 136" track that you want.
Oh ya, forgot to mention, the longer track Attak is faster than the RTX, the CK skid for some reason robs MPH!!

Thanks all....most of my friends that have had the Apex version machines have had the Attak style. Seems to work well in the UP and northern Wisconsin where we like to ride. Bridges the bumps well and hooks better in the sugar snow.
I knew of two clean looking used RTX models on CL one in western MN and one around Fargo. I thought I better do my research before I decided on buying one and now I am certain I want the Attak or Apex LTX model. I would love a power steering Apex but the prices are still up there. If I had one of those I would get the 128 and maybe stretch it to 136 in the future. The 144 version of those is to cumbersome for my type of riding.

I took the RTX skid out even after revalving the shocks and bought a GT model with the Ohlins way better ride.
