2012 YAMAHA APEX XTX
I have a 2012 Apex XTX that the idler wheels ice up. My buddy has a 2013 Apex XTX that the wheels don't ice. We are both running DuPonts. I'm not sure why only mine ice up. The bearing in the wheels are good. Anyone else have this issue?

Had the same problem but it was upper rear wheels frozen solid in a brick of ice. Below zero temps, conditions on the thinner side for snow.

Off topic, but what fuel caddy is that on the back of your sleds?

That's weird for one to ice up and the other not. I guess you could try to swap the idler wheels between the sleds and see if it's the idler wheels or suspension setup.

Dry it off, go to the dollar store, by a cheap can of furniture polish and spray away. Problem solved. Plastic on wheel could be coarse and holds snow?

All my wheels, and really the whole ski on my '12 freezes up....I use a rubber mallet to break the idlers free, and remove some of the ice. There is no place to store a mallet though, for on the trails!

I cannot recall the spray that a forum member recommend.....used on snow blowers. It was posted within the last two weeks.

That is weird, I now have 300 miles on my new 2014 Apex XTX so I'll be sure to keep an eye on them and let you know if I have any issues.

Personally, I'd be happy if my skid would hold more snow than others...helps with low snow conditions. Iced up wheels though, not so much.

How about your skis? Are they different from your friend's? Maybe your skis kick up more snow? Or do you mostly follow your buddy and end up travelling in more chewed up snow?

Grimm may very well be on the right track. Different skis, different track, studs, ice scratchers on one not the other? My scratchers cause a lot of snow dust, resulting in lots of ice. I know that the Nytros have addressed the issue with the block off plate for the muffler, but I haven't heard much about Apexes installing a plate. It would be easy enough to do if you still have the tunnel protectors.

I've installed block off plates, between the tunnel protectors, from the front of the muffler to the heat exchanger. Eliminates 1/2 the ice. Works well. Have ridden side by side with my buddy who has the same machine and compared. Have also done the same to my Nytro XTX and works.
