mntvipermn, I don't have much money for skis and such so I bought a set of used (1 season) Yamaha mountain skis and did the shim mod. I am runnuing the Shaper Boy bars also. It handles great on and off trail on my 07' Attak. I ride mostly off trail and want to extend mine also to at least 144" but I honestly didn't get stuck this last season at all. I have taken the transfer rod out completely and this thing transfers weight like crazy yet is still very trailable. A buddy of mine actually raced another buddies 09' XTX through the trails and he said man this thing handles great. It was the first time he had ridden it also. When they got out on the lake he said they raced again and they were quite even up til 70 mph then he said my Attak pulled away very quickly well past 100 mph. I also climbed a hill out in the Kingston Plains that only a 09' Polaris Assault was climbing that day, they all thought there was no way I would make it but I did it twice. The only problem I had was trying to feather the throttle to keep from looping out. Admittedly I couldn't match his hill speed but I still have the stock 136" Ripsaw. I would love a 144-151" with 1.75"-2" lugs, as I think it would climb and float through about anything. The stock Yamaha mountain skis will cost you about $220.00 for everything you will need and I think they do a great job if set up right.

Here is what we did to a 2006 Attak before it even had any miles on it. The customer rode it 1100 miles in the Steamboat Springs CO area without a problem so far.

Mr. Ulmer:
Can you do these extensions to the attack with a 2 or 6 degree tip up on the rail like the Nytro XTX? I remember a while ago you took a poll to guage interest in these and were maybe going to offer that option, just wondering if option exists.
Thx,
Mike

Alright everybody, the extension may just happen very soon......
I've decided to save my hard earned cash and go for tunnel extensions. I got a great deal on a 151 Fully clipped Camo Challenger track and Hartman rail extensions to 151.
my plan now is to have my dealer press on 8 tooth extros and possibly lower gearing. But is lower gearing really necessary? I dont want to lose much top end. I understand 8 tooth drivers actually raise gearing unless you modify the gears to compensate for it. Thoughts on this? I don't want it ride/ be geared like a Mnt. Apex.
Then I will remove all tunnel.Cooler protectors, install the skid extensions and the track. I also want to have some billet wheels put on there, also. Then my 2" paddle track.
I have another post about this, but I am still on the fence about which tunnel extension to install. I want something with some real flavor to it. Although Hartman's tunnel extension is excellent.
This is the route I'm heading and I'll show pics as the progress happens. But that is the plan for now. And if I don't like it, then I'll get an Expert X for it later and sell the Mono EC.

Mike, dropping to an 8 tooth driver will make your gearing lower. Hartman told me it was equivalent to gearing down about 1.5 teeth in the chaincase. I'd run the 8 tooth extros and leave the gearing alone for now and see how it works. I'm going to run 7 tooth 3.00" pitch drivers on my Apex (just a little bigger than 8 tooth 2.52 pitch) and leave my gearing alone. I replied to your thread in the Apex Mtn section - I'm setting up my Apex for 153".

Well here's the deal.....
I ordered 8 tooth extro drivers today as well as some other goodies (A nice new Hartman Helix for one!). After I get those pressed on, I will install the extensions to 151" and put the track on.
Since Northeastern MN is mostly at most 1,500 to 2,000 feet or so above sea level, I'm confident stock Attak gearing will be fine for the 151". Thx for the advice RTYsxv and Tom Hartman about extros lowering your gearing!. Unless I'm gonna be 3,000 to 4,000 above sea level, I don't think lowering the gears any more will help.
I'm still looking at tunnel extensions....... Lots of good choices out there!
I also plan to swap out all of the outside plastic wheels for billet wheels -- all 3 of them on each side!!!
Sounds like a good plan. Be sure to post some pics! I think 151" will make a very nice setup. This is or a 144" is what Yamaha needs to sell as a factory option for a sled of that weight and power. I'm pretty excited about my 153" Apex project as well.

Ya, it would nice if yamaha would just market a longer track Apex/Attak short of the MTX/Mountain version, for boondocking and playing in the powder, but versatile enough for everyday riding. But that's why we just mod our existing sleds.
And RTYsxv, If ya get up the north shore at all looking for some powder this winter to try out that Polaris skid, give me a shout. It'd be cool to see that skid mounted under your Attak!

Skisavers and shims as well. My last trip I ran a Prototype add on for Powderhounds that made them even better. If you go that route, let me know and I'll hook you up![]()
Hey Big Dog Viper Dave -- I really want these for my Mnt Viper, I PM'd ya........
