Ok I have decided to upgrade to a new(er) sled. I am looking at some 07 models and I am trying to decide between an Attak or an Apex. I was set on an Attak GT but have been talking to some locals and they are really sold on the 121 tracks. The only shorty I have really ridden since I have gotten back in to sledding was an 02 MXZ 500. Other then that I have just been riding my Warrior. I really liked the Warrior but I have nothing to really compare it to. My style of riding is bout 85% groomed trails and 15% blasting across lakes. What would I really be gaining by going with the Apex over the Attak? Also is the Ohlins shock worth it or just an expensive thing to fix if/when it craps out?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I really like my newest 07 Attak GT. It is better ride than the 06 of my wife's, also less prone to bottoming. I was worried about the shock as well. It seems the issues have been worked out on the 07's. The 06 Apex GT's seem to have all kinds of trouble with the shock. As far as gaining anything from the short track. You gain a rougher ride, instability as far as fishtailing and slower acceleration. Do a search and you'll get all kinds of advice. It will be enough to keep you reading for days. Only machines I'll ride anymore are the long tracks and we have some pretty tight trails here at home.

iflyem, If the trails you ride are tight and twisty, then go with the short track. You can definately tell a difference between the two. This is all based on an aggressive to semi-aggressive riding style. If you are a cruiser, than buy whichever one you like best.

I just stretxhed my aPEX TO 136" for a big reason,,,,hookup. There is no penalty for top end going to Attak, they ride better, and handle well in almost all conditions. After riding my friends Attak, then going back to mine, I don't see anough of a difference in quick handling to notice a difference for my riding style. 100 percent fast groomed trail.

Sweet thanks for the input. I do like the Attak. I never felt like I was working too hard throwing the warrior around the trails. And the Attak GT can be had for quite a bit less then the Apex GT around here.

the attack handles way better than the warrior.. but i still think the shorter track will handle better in the REALLY TIGHT TRAILS..
Longer tracks definitly track better in strait lines..

My Apex did do the real tight stuff well, and it didn't dart after I put on some Berg's. The only time the rear end swaps around at all is on the rough stuff at speed. This is were the Attak does better. If I could do it again, I would find a plain vanilla leftover Attak and go with that. The GT is nice, but the extra money is better spent on a clutch setup and nice ski's.

I'm partial to the Attak. My buddy and I each had 06's, his a Apex, Mine an Attak. Even he liked My Attak overall better than his Apex. Especially when We would do the off trail stuff. We both agreed that about the only place the Apex was noticeably better was in the super twisty stuff. Everything else was a tie or the Attak ranked a little better. JMO.

I've ridden both and prefer the Attak. More stable, better traction, better ride.

I have the APEX GT and after reading all the comparisons for 2 years I would get an Attak if and when I do it again. Every one says , better hook, more stable ride and handles great and the theoretical loss in twisties must be minimal as never hear any complaints.
My two cents

Then you aren't listening. I can assure you it's much more than theoretical. My own riding includes a lot of hard play in the twisties. Likely classified as very aggressive at times. My riding style demands a nice controlled drift in the back end when I'm doing that. I'll even do that to slow the sled. I'm here to tell you that a 136" doesn't do that as well as a 121". Have spent a lot of time and money proving that to my own satisfaction. Just let me know the next time you see a 136 getting sideways in a corner (speaking of groomed trail/hard pack here) for more than a turn or two. Not saying it can't be done, but it's much more controllable (fun!!!) with a 121. Maybe it's just me...
No arguments with the 136" elswhere. The 136 will ride better, go nearly as fast, and get better traction.

If you have the money, spring for the Attak GT. The ability to change comp. dampening on the fly is really nice. I didn't think it was that big of a deal before I tried it. It is a better ride over the std. Not as prone to bottoming, the front shocks are also adjustable and fade less than std. If you liked the warrior as I did, you will love the Attak. If you ride with your short tracks buddies on Apex's, they will wonder why you can beat them with the Attak. That is of course considering there are equal miles on them. They get much faster as you know with miles. The Attak will put about 6 sled lengths on a Apex, and give nothing up in top speed, Stock for Stock.
