How do you guys feel about it? Being an avid atv user as well as a snowmobilier I never really thought about it. But recently I read a article in our newsletter that made a lot of sense. Snowmobilers worked very hard and still do to get and maintain trails. ATV's definitely leave tracks. Causing next winters trails to be rutted up. I always ride in ATV parks or ATV desinated trails but I see ATV's going down snowmobile trails all the time. Anybody have any input?

I'm a pretty mild mannered guy but seeing the deep ruts from ATVs on freshly groomed snowmobile trails absolutely lights my fire :x
I have seen a few ATV tracks early in the season. I almost expect to see them until the grooming starts. Once the trails are groomed they need to stay off the trails. I'm sure they know how they absolutely ruin the trails very quickly.
A buddy and I came up behind two guys on ATVs once. We both wanted to chew their asses but elected not to. So, I guess that you can mark me down as a definite NO vote on this one. Powder Blue

I think it would be an excellent idea to try and create year round trails for seasonal use of the sleds and for the ATV. I would buy an ATV in a heart beat if I was able to use the trails until the snowmoblie season starts. I have a YZ250 and I find it hard to find legal areas to use it. But to use both the ATV and the sleds on the same trails at the same time just does not work. Don't really find it a problem in my area. The only time I see the ATVs using the trails is in a mild winter then it doesn't really matter just as long as they stay off when the snow comes.

The problem with ATV's is that most riders are not happy, unless the wheels are spinning, causing damage. I've seen destruction in the woods from ATV's doing donuts. I stopped going to tip-up town because they drive like idiots in congested areas. There is bare ice as far as you can see, to be an idiot, but nobody to be impressed by their skill at spinning their wheels. It's similar to the sledders that continually pump their throttles to be cool, or having pipes, and doing wheelies in a bar parking area.

Hi Guys - I am an atv rider and snowmobiler, 3 - quads, 3 - 3 wheelers, and 3 snowmobiles. When I go trail riding, you are right, they are not happy unless the tires are spinning, and the $hit is flying. I had many friends complain because they can't ride on the snowmobile trails in winter, I tell them, they have to get a sled. They just say, "we don't have money like you do!" Whatever.
But I do agree, they should stay off when the trails are groomed. Spring, summer, and fall, are their time. I had a lot of friends I used to go with, and they liked alcohol more than riding, so I changed friends. Don't want any more accidents.

I guess that would depend on how much snow you have. I am an ATV owner but due to the marginal snow weve had lately I keep mine off the snowmobile trails I don't like the way it leaves trenches! When your cruising down the trail at 60 - 70 on a sled those rutt's can play hell with your steering. I vote for parallel trails one for sled's one for ATV's
