BACK FIRING BEWARE

You guys notice it only does it when warm?

I honestly cant remeber what the conditions were like when mine was backfiring and blew out the muffler.
I have since had the evo reflash done to the ecu and so far i only notice backfire/starting issues when it is -10 or lower which does happen , but is not that often in maine.

Backfiring is thru the intake.
Afterfiring is out the exhaust.
Just saying....
Thats true. I believe everyone is talking about Afterfiring/Explosion/Fast Raw Gas Burn..... Its loud and will make anyone under age of 5 cry. Adults who have heard it back off when starting just in case. Its not good for sure.

I have to ask - would this issue have anything to do with the style of muffler you have? I have the MPI 190 kit and when I bought the sled it had the Aero "mountain" can installed. I used this all last year and just 2 rides ago changed over to the quieter trail can due to complaints from the party I ride with. The first ride with the trail can was a milder day but it was a pretty easy day so I didn't really work the motor too bad. The second ride it was around/just above freezing and I rode hard as it might have been our last day to ride. I noticed twice after hammering the throttle, quickly letting off and then rolling back on it backfired hard. I'm talking scared my and made my ears ring. Could the added back pressure have attributed to this?

Yes for sure. It's gas building up in can and then Boom! Open can won't do it cause the gas just goes right through since no chamber. Mine never backfired when running can but did once stock modded can was put on.

We'l then I think my riding buddies are going to have to suck it up! Back to loud and proud.

Disclaimer: I live and ride where there are no sound laws on sleds and there are very few complaints. Our trails are mostly quite far away from any towns and still far away from rural farmhouse style properties.

Finally got the sled back from the dealer today. Muffler & ECU were replaced. Unfortunitly with no below zero weather I will be unable to test any start up backfiring. If the wife will let me go north this weekend I can try out if there is still any backfire after running a grade.

Unfortunately you’ll never know until your in up north cold. It sucks that you you get the sled back after season.
It’s going to be a long summer.
Keep me in the loop about your experience next season.
