im not really positive on the cruise rpm drop with the y-p-y spring ,never checked it to tell you the truth ,im gonna ride a little tomorrow and i'll check it at a few different speeds to see what the rpms are running,i have tried a lot of different setting with the stock components and stock is hard to beat,im not studded, dont care about hole shots, have found most guys with studs only pull me a little bit from 0-20mph,after that they are extra weight(nice for icy conditions )costing you topend speed,i dont like to wind the secondary more than 60 for trails,90% of the time your wasting rpms, the four stroke is kinda like a big block chevy, likes to be short shifted, wants to use the torque and transition into the hp,pull 9500-9800 out of the hole and shifts out to 10500 on top, belts last longer, better gas mileage, and your not really getting out performed by all the aftermarket stuff

Thanks 170 plus, I appreciate that.
I may try the same combo as I think it could up the MPG by 2

yes I agree ,I had a proline clutch kit last year and it was a little faster but I prefer the stock set up for trail riding, which is what I do 99% of the time ,I sold the clutckit and put the cash towards a set of pilots (now there is money well spent),I have gotten much more enjoyment out of the skis then I did the clutch kit ,and the stock clutchig is easier on fuel,I do like the sound of that y-p-y pri.spring you are using 170 plus ,I think I will give one of those a try.

Tell you another reason, Do you have Duelly's or recentley put them on ,, if you have there is about 2 to an honest 3miles per gallon, "proven" also think what that does to your MPH... Bill
nate007 said:Spent Monday night riding with a couple buddies, and did some fairly hard ditch banging, and after my ODO said 70 miles my low fuel light came on! I am going to check my fuel lines since I recently had the tank out, but I'm 99% sure theres no leak. I pulled the sled back in my garage, let it sit inside with the garage cloased up and there was no smell of fuel, and I could find nothing dripping even when running.
Could the clutch kit, pipes, added +10 on the ECU, and airbox mod kill my mileage that bad? I'm used to at least getting somewhere in the neighborhood of 130 - 140 miles from a tank, at least! I couldn't believe that those mods would suck down twice as much gas, so I had to ask!
We were riding fairly agressively for night riding, and I was on and off the throttle alot, but not much more than usual.

Question:
Should it take more fuel to make more HP?
998 cc's carbed = 138-140 HP
vs.
998 cc's FI 148 - 150 HP.
Just wondering.

Well i am not sure,
but my 07 rtx was a piggy on the fuel.
almost use's the same amout as my 02 viper
within a couple dollars of each fill...
the machine certinly does not get gas milage my 600sdi poo, or vector... the phaser must be amazing on fuel.
but i am more about arm ripping pull then fuel milage!
cheers

no dually runners for me ,i still ahve 1/2 of the stock carbides and thats good enough, less drag,i tried my rpm today at different speeds and here is what i had :
60mph @ 7000rpm
70mph @ 7600rpm
80mph @ 8000rpm
now this was on some descent trails and its about -2deg f if that makes a difference, this was with the y-p-y front spring and secondary wound at 60,the guys with the clutch kits can compare numbers to see what they are turning

Your a good guy 170plus, thanks.
Although conditions and up/down slopes have an effect on load thus RPM, Id say you are running at least 500 cruise RPMs lower than me. I am going to get that spring on order!

Yep Bigwin, Just put a new set of Dooley"s on just before riding this season. Any body else heard of this? Do you think a different set of skis or carbides would be better?
