Hey all

Waiting on reply from Bender for warranty currently, see what you guys think...

Ok, I only trail ride, there is 3000kms since i have owned this exhaust. The day it broke, I was ripping across a lake at full pin, then all of a sudden, the speed dropped and it got alot louder. I had just thought that i blew a donut. Took it apart later and it broke where you can see in the pics. Clearly becuase it is cracking everywhere on every weld, something isnt right.

Also, you can see in the pics that this was very gradual as there is some exhaust carbon around the older parts of the crack.

Now running stock exhaust again, how depressing.. And not only is there y-pipe issues, now there is the rest of exhaust issues. I think the entire system is flawed and needs a redesign!

Anyone else have this happen?

Wow dude, that stinks. Hopefully they set you up with a replacement free or darn cheap. That's a lot of money to spend on something that comes apart so easily under normal riding conditions.

Looks like stainless to me.The welding on that pipe is done with mig and should of been done with tig for a far superior weld. That quality of welding on that pipe is terrible.Hope they warranty that for you.

I know this doesn't help you but I started wondering what my Skinz super Q looked like. They weld the pipes individually. I wonder if it will make a difference. About 2000 miles on mine so far.

Agree with Capt. Storm that weld is definately inferior. Poor weld they should warranty it with no problem.

They should, hopefully that doesn't take long.

I think the exhaust is actually made by their new parent company Dyno Port Pipes. You'd think they would know how to weld...

I'd be VERY surprised if they didn't take care of you. If on the off chance that they give you grief (which I doubt they will) get ahold of the Owner.

I do a little welding and have guys that work for me that MIG and TIG. I would say that it looks like it was MIG welded...maybe shoulda been TIG. Also, Penetration looks horrible in the pictures. Doesn't surprise me that they broke.

I wouldn't knock Bender though...Sometimes a welder is having a bad day or needs a little more training. If Dynoport built them...They have been building pipes for years and years. Even a very experienced welder has bad welds sometimes. Sometimes the welds look great, you think you have good penetration etc. Then you cut it apart and the weld sucks because your setup was wrong for one reason or another.

I'm guessing they'll make it right.

I have the same pipes, with no problems. Just like anything else thats done by hand, people have off-days which causes big problems. Ive always had great luck with Benders service, and I'me sure they will tae care of you. If not, re-assemble the pieces on the sled, and have a weld shop TIG it back together. With the lack of penetration the first time, they should be able to get it together again. It may not last as long with all the heat cycles the metal has been through, but then again, it might last indefinately.

Thanks guys!

I also beleive that it was just a crappy pipe and since no one else is having problems, and everything else I have ever owned from bender has been high quality, that theyre product is still good.

Hopefully this can be replaced for free, otherwise it was a giant waste of money!!

That pipe broke in the transition zone or demarcation area next to the toe of the weld. That area will be the weakest area of the pipe due to the heat transferred to that area from the welding process. There doesn't seem to be any undercut at all to weaken the stainless. I would put my money on the Stainless being a low quality alloy maybe from an overseas supplier.
