So i have a question,is there anybody in here that runs the Tapp in dragracing? Or know someone who does?
I run a Sidewinder with 400 hp with studs 1,86 and skid162" . I run now with Viper Primary and Secondery with ThunderProducts weigts and 911. This is on the limit what this cluthses can handle.
I want to buy some billet chlutses for next dragracing seson but i have not desided what brand to buy and what sice on Primary and secondery to buy. 8,75 Primary and 11" ??
Anybody here that could give me some advice to buy and what setup to run? You could pm me if you could give me some hints :) We run snow dragracing 201 m with snow from start to finish.
Was hoping to get better 60 fot and time with Billet clutshes :)
Tapp/ Pro4 / STM

I have a friend who races Outlaws. He is over the 500 hp mark on his Cat and he use STM.

I will toss my 2 cents in here from the guys I know like Jason Price, Louie Wirbile, Bill Ohara. STM primary on the 1100 Zuke engine. Pro 4 Primary on the Yami engine, and from I what i have seen I would only go with a Pro 4 secondary regardless what sled its going on. We use the Pro 4 on our PS1000 and it holds up great. Granted you are pushing more power. But I have seen STM secondary's crack on high HP turbo's.

Interesting. Four members with lots of site posts say STM, you push Pro 4 hard. You also push Pro 4 on HCS under the same username. Where can you buy a Pro 4 primary? How long have you used Pro 4 clutches? If they were not mass-produced or commercially available until recently, how do you have them and how do you have so much experience with them? What is your race team’s name and who is it comprised of? Do you have any relationship to Pro 4? If so, what is it?

Not trying to be difficult, but I think part of the benefit of this site is a financially disinterested discussion of components for our sleds. Obviously a post made by someone with a financial or personal interest in the subject matter is worth less to the community than a post written by someone with nothing to gain. This is especially true when the identity of the poster is unknown. If you don’t have a personal or financial interest in pushing Pro 4, then my apologies. In that case, you shouldn’t have a problem answering my questions above to let us know why your experience with Pro 4 justifies your conclusion that it’s a better clutch than the STM. FWIW, I run a TAPP primary and stock secondary, and my Pro 4 secondary is sitting on my shelf. I would recommend the TAPP, but I only run 330hp and don’t race.

IMO at his level he could really benifits from a pneumatic lockup style clutch and the added force on takeoff from the secondary arms of the STM style clutches.

STM or Pro 4. I'd lean a little on the pro 4 based on grass results I've seen from some or the fastest 998 turbos currently out there. Just personal preference but having personally seen/touched/inspected both clutches I'd go with the pro 4 for my own build when it's time to lay my money down. Air clutch for snow isnt really going to be a big benefit unless you're on crusher dust surface that allows for the necessary traction/useable power levels off the line.

You might want too let let the guys who run big power on the snow know that. Every single snow outlaw and most with over 500hp run them on the snow. If he were to upgrade too a larger turbo they become almost essential for spool up.

I have no financial or personal interest in Pro 4 and nothing to gain or loose. Its your money and your choice. Yes we use his clutchs and I do push his clutchs because we have found faster ET's with his clutchs and IMO he builds a superior clutch hands down. Mark is a long time racer and builds clutchs. Now I can not comment on the Tapp clutch. We have used Pro 4 clutchs for 6-7 years now on our PS1000. Durning that time frame we never even had to replace a bushing as he dont use the cheap DU bushings like Cat does. Pull your own secondary apart and look at those bushings. The owners name is Mark Kondziola and his business is in Bay city Michigan. He now sponsors the Michigan Snowmobile Asphalt Racing and I know a lot of guys who switched to the asphalt seen from grass racing. We race grass and have for a long time. Our race team name is Denny Mousseau Racing out of Charlevoix, Mi. There is Denny the owner, my self Al, Mike, & Dan. I pretty much do all the carb tuning, ign timing & split with the suspension set up & clutch tuning. We got one of Marks secondarys when he first started his operations and yes back then it was very limited production. Before I helped Denny with his PS1000 I use to ice race myself and help Brent Hoag when he was running Cats in the PS1000 class as my close buddy AKA Farmer owned those Cats. I also have Teched grass drags when Bob Quigly ran the grass drags in Michigan and I have teched the Haydays twice. I wont ever tech again. Way to much work!!!

The reason why I push the Pro 4 is from truly a performance advantage and a superior product IMO. I have read and talked to a lot of guys who have ran STM's on the Yamaha and from what i have been told the harmonics of the 3 cylinder is very hard on STM primarys. I have seen a fair share of cracked STM secondarys and personally would not own one because of that. If you want a air clutch you dont really have a choice as STM is the only one that i know of out there right now.

You can find Pro 4 here.... https://www.facebook.com/pg/pro4performance/posts/?ref=page_internal

hey ZRT you probably know my friend Troub from Charlevoix, very smart guy.

Last I knew the "snow outlaws" circuit were the only runs modifying the surface of the starting line with crusher dust. Which will allow for bigger power to be put down at the starting line. The typical circuits here in ny and pa etc wether flat or hill drags you are on regular snow that's pretty beat up. They don't service the starting line more than a couple times throughout the day if that. So any of the turbo sleds from pro mod on up will be spinning even on moderate anti lag settings. Let alone using an air clutch that allows for even higher engagements etc. Snow outlaws would be one of the exceptions which is why I mentioned crusher dust starting lines that allow for bigger hp specifically in my initial post. Being that I own a promod and have raced and or attended various circuits in my area on snow, along with attending all the already grass events from haydays to epping I've got a fairly good grasp on what works and doesnt on different tracks.

I have zero interest in either company and I'm not aware or concerned if either is a site sponsor here currently. The OP asked for suggestions of the best clutch. Not the best site sponsored clutch company or the ones because someone has more posts on this particular site and platform. You'll find sleds win with multiple different components. 1 component alone likely wont make the difference between winning and losing in racing. The guy with more time testing and tuning will more times than not beat the guy with better parts and less testing etc.

Oh ya, I know Troub & his boy Jake. You know Troub is building a PS1000 right now to go along with his PS800. And we are building a PS800 to go along with our PS1000. Being you know Troub do you know Kenny Miller or Jason Price??
