Some good reading here...I think it has been posted before but worth another look.
http://www.tobycreek.org/oil_filters/index.shtml
Some more good reading on oil and filters...motorcycles but I like how they take each filter apart and then rate it.

That tobycreek article is quite dated with filter reviews between 1999 and 2003. The Yamaha filter pictured is nowhere near what the filter looks like today. I recently opened one up and it looks like a normal filter with a metal end cap. The only thing that hasn't changed is that Fram is still crap.
The calsci doesn't convince me too much. Sure he cut open some filters but not much elaboration as to why he lumps some of them as not recommended, such as the Amsoil and K&N. If he would have done like tobycreek and explained each one, I would accept the findings.

I believe the Mobil1 M1-108 is the same exact size and length as stock, but I could be wrong.

Probably wrong. I had Apex in my head when I replied.

Dated yes but at least their opinions are based on something close to research... I also cut apart a yamaha filter and for the $25 I paid for it I was not impressed.

I have yet to see an aftemarket filter as short as the dm-13440. It is only 2" long. Everything else is at least 2 1/2" if not longer. If you look from underneath you can see anything over 2" will protrude past the motor bottom and thus exposing it.

Agreed. I just wish someone would do a similar comparison with the current filters on the market relevant to our sleds instead of cars or motorcycles.

Yada, yada, yada...
Yeah, that's from the calsci site but there is very little to no explanation as to why the filters are good or not. Heck, I even found some goofball kid on YouTube that did a better comparison:

I was absolutely shocked over the Honda filter!
