Just wanted to pass this along to the big boost guys. I called Evo last week to find out what kind of power levels and what aftermarket goodies we can expect for the new 998. First off, the 998 was built to handle much more power than it comes with in stock calibrations, so that's great news for the guys coming over from the Zook mill in the Cat Turbo models. Evo said based on preliminaries, the 998 will be capable of the same or higher power levels of there boosted Viper (Which makes 275 HP) running only 91 octane. Keep in mind for the Viper to make that kind of power, you need 101 octane. This is awesome news. The have not totally decided on boost choices but my recommendation was based similar to what Turbo Dynamic offers for the Suzuki motor. You can choose several packages that cater to your specific wants. It would look something like this
Stage 1. No boost switch, single preset tune making about 225 HP. Pump 91 octane
Stage 2. 3 stage selected from a installed switch. 225, 250 and 275 HP range to choose from. Pump 91 octane
Stage 3. Race Tune. Anti lag, 250, 275 and 300+(requiring higher octane) HP range with a switch
With all 3, I asked if they could incorporate a dash mounted DET light (standard with Turbo Dynamics tunes. They didn't know for sure if this would be something they would be offering and said it depends on customer demand. To me it's an awesome piece of mind option that works awesome on the Cats and warns you instantly if you are going into DET mode. This feature also is protection for the motor if you run into bad feel. If it senses detonation, 3 things happen instantly. First, the light turns on to warn you thus alerting you to get out of the throttle. Second is it takes boost away , then changes timing. All to protect the motor in the event you don't have enough octane to run whatever boost level you selected. If any of you talk to EVO or any other after marketer, demand this is part of their package.
They will also have more options to assure you are getting the desired HP you want. They will have larger exhaust, and a higher flowing exhaust canister. This is pretty standard practice in the boost game. More boost means more exhaust, so you need a way to get rid of the extra volume and the stock components can only flow so much.
They will offer aluminum charge tubes or silicone hoses and most likely a higher flowing Intercooler.
And to finish it off, will have turn key clutching solutions for these upgrades.
Though some of you might like to know what's coming and I would expect companies like D&D, Turbo Dynamics, Speedwerx, Bikeman, and Ulmer to offer similar upgrades. Like with the current packages offered for the Cat guys, this is going to be awesome to have that kind of reliable horsepower. It's not for everyone but for those who crave big power (like me) you will have plenty of options on the new Sidewinder.

My question is, how do we know so much when only pre production models are lying around...i find it hard to beleive all this has been determined without real life testing...

I think its based off assumptions, but bikeman already took delivary off there 2017 thundercat, how they got one so early behoves me,but they may be way ahead of the aftermarket field when next November comes. My question is, how do we know so much when only pre production models are lying around...i find it hard to beleive all this has been determined without real life testing...

Speedwerks has one also. I wonder if Ulmer has one? He has been quiet lately!

All the companies can produce new tunes for the Sidewinder but only real world riding will let us know if these motors will stand up. As much as I want to get a Sidewinder and boost it up I can't afford to have something go wrong and have a new motor blow up. Hopefully a stock one will keep me happy at least a yr till the field testing is complete.

Yes,i feel much like you do bro,get it,add wheel kit and run stock for the first year,i did not do that with my 13 procross turbo, and had to many problems,to keep,so I wont make that mistake again, and I did wait till 13 cause the 12's had chaincase problems, with reverse and things,i don't think we will see that kind of trouble again, cat and Yamaha has had this combo for a while, both have taken different roads to come out with there best combonation to date 2016,so I feel 2017 will be there best effort yet, with plenty of stock HP.All the companies can produce new tunes for the Sidewinder but only real world riding will let us know if these motors will stand up. It should be a great upcoming snowmobile season. It has been a long time coming but I really like all the interest the SideWinder is generating on TY and in the rest of the snowmobile world. There are many who are jumping ship to Yamaha with this monster. I'm really glad for those Yamaha dealers who hung in there over the tough years. The Tide is turning and they are going to see an increase in sales that they needed . Good for them and for us.

He emailed a sheet to F&S that weekend with upgrades he was going to offer. I lost mine but I remember he had listed a clutch kit, exhaust and flashes (evo). Pretty sure there were a couple more things on there.OK' it seems we're in bussiness...
