Blown belts?

Around 200 miles[/QUOTE]
A little photo memory for this chat.

My first run up north on my winder.

Around 200 miles
Yes sir had 3 of those, one was just cruising 50-55mph on fresh packed groomed trail. All my pals just shook their heads as I detangled.

When I had my viper the boys all called me "turbo joe"
Now with the winder they call me joey sidpanels. I'm sure you can geusse why

Funny story.
Today I went to the local dealer on the way home. They have an anniversary machine on the floor. I asked to take the side panel off ( buddy didn't know how but I showed him). Two rollers touching and one floating way off the helix worse then my sled. Doesn't look any different.
Grrrr...and I did talk to bud who already has his 18, and he tore into clutching.....NOT ONE CHANGE from his 17!

Not true. That color scheme is awesome! And don't let my bitchin get you down. Even with the belt issue. This sled is the best handling fastest machine on the trail.

There is many Theries out there on the belt issue. My best guess is in the back shift and load/force applied. We sold many Winders last season and had customers go over 3000 miles that ride easy with no belt blowing. Then we have had customers with the same mileage blow 10+ belts riding them like a MX bike.
I myself found my Winder not liking braking hard into a corner then wacking the throttle. As lower gearing will help I just don't think the roller Yami clutch back shifts fast enough. After blowing 2 belts on my Winder in the first 1800 miles I cranked up the preload on the secondary and went 1600 before blowing another.
Yes I lost a bit of top end but I was riding it like I stole it the whole time.
My opinion is if you can get 1000 plus miles on a belt on a hyper sled riding it hard you are doing well.

I did not state blowing a belt every 300mi is acceptable. I just stated what we have seen this past season.
If we can get most everyone that rides hard to the 1000mi + mark that should be acceptable with very aggressive riding. We are talking about a 200+ hp sled.

My 2 cents.

it's not the hp that's doing it its in the clutches. heck my 200 hp mpi nytro blew 1 belt in 8000 kms..ran all day long at 7 psi..part of the problem I think is the springs

A belt should not blow at all, it should be changed when it wears down to the service limit that is stated in the owner's manual. I have not worn out a belt yet on my sidewinder. They always blow first.

The secondary is not shifting fast enough!
Steeper cam angle and a bit less weight in the front. Make it #$%&* #$%&*shift.........
For sure the primary spring need to be change. Ultimax xs belt======= belt problem solve for me with those litle mod ;-)

Trust me I have also seen customers get 8000mi + on a Apex/nytro belts, but after putting approx 100,000 miles on Yami 4 strokes I personally have never gotten over 2000mi on a belt.
Call it hard ridding or abusive but that is they way I ride.
So if I can get more than 1000mi+ on My Winder belt riding it very aggressive I'm good with that. I have never seen any of my Doo riding buddies get even close to that trying to keep up. LOL.

How do you like that belt? I would like to hear guys who have tried other belts. I think the Gates CC is the one many of us like but I have never felt the gates had a particularly long life, as they are softer but do perform well.

So is that Ultimax the same size as the 8jp? So it would also be the replacement for a viper too right?

If you have a part number post it up, Id like to check into that too...Cant hurt testing with other belts. I always liked the 8DN for hardness which is a good hi mile attribute usually. And just "dial up" the deflection to a "doo like" height above the secondary and it works well for all(exception top speed likely down 2-3mph) and is a cheap one around 55 i see them for only.

Ultimax XS825 = 8jp belt length
Ultimax XS805 = 8dn belt length

I run the XS825 on my turbo Viper and am super pleased with it.
