Blown belts?

Gates carbon is like a rubber band when run on winder. Its a fast sticky belt IMO. But very easy to blow apart. Ask me how I know??? smoked 2 of them
 

The Gates is super consistent and soft for sure. It performs really good for drag racing because it is soft.

What i found happens with Gates was they would delaminate(top cogs separate off) on lake runs....That was on the cat which had super hot clutches and under hood heat. I would think the gates should do abit better on SW as the clutches dont run too hot at all, and far less under hood heat with the engine being mounted as yammie does with heat out the back.

Maybe I will try an Ultimax XS. Have not tried one of those in many yrs.

Dan the Ultimax XS is the one I may try as well,i remember our gates belts delaminating too,but they did like corner to corner blasts,just not WO top end runs.
 
This might be a good thread for us to start posting up who is gonna be making a belly pan protector!!

I dont want to worry about damage to panels if a belt goes at hi speed.
 
There is a guy on the a Facebook page for Sidewinders & T Cat's. forget his name.
People seem happy with them. Not the prettiest but reasonable & effective it appears.
 
I hope yamaha is prepared! The lower clutch panel was BO for the entire last winter

I think I ran across one on Ebay for belly panel protection, but I believe there is a guy here making one too, he made the Power steering kit.

This is something that should be stock from factory on sleds with this much HP
 
theres lots of belly pan protectors for sale. I got so lucky smoking at least 5 belts with no plastic blow outs last year, I better not push my luck this year.
 
Had good luck with Yamaha 8dn. last season. I have a ultimax xs to try in 8dn length. I have always been a Dayco xtx belt fan. Never tried a Ultimax

If the 8DN can last,it sure is a bargain! But for radar runs will want the proper length for those extra 2-3mph. But for trail riding in general it sure seems like best bang for buck if they hold up. Hence the dial adjust belt adjuster.
 
My winder blew a belt baldy last year - damaged plastics and wound up behind the primary (which I was unaware of) and took out the bearing on the inside. IMO, given what I have read and know to be true regarding the desire to put these sleds on a diet, possibly they have lightened the structure up to the point where there is so much chassis flex that we create an increase in deflection under loads. Has anyone tried a torque arm??

not that I have read

most people are pointing the finger at the secondary. hopefully this winter we will get this problem solved
 
Yes cannot wait for another season. Hoping that my dealer helped out my belt problem by adjusting the secondary offset at end of season last year.

Gave me a lot of confidence when he found my mileage problem and seemed to also find me more power with his warranty checkup.
Shall find out once the snow flies!

I'm all ready to start trail testing my clutches.

Changes I made ,
33-35 dalton helix
Black orange dalton secondary spring.
Ultimax xs belts.

First I will try to run this setup with no changes to the primary. I would like to know if the problem was only in the secondary.
Once the snow flys I will post the updates.
