On the weekend, helped my riding buddy tear down a 2009 MP with a blown motor that he bought for parts. Previous owner had no idea why it blew but did say that he just had it serviced just before it happened. Sad to part this one out as it was in otherwise great shape, even better than his current '07 Lite. It had about 16k km.

I did check the oil filter and it wasn't double gasketted so that wasn't it. Haven't torn into it yet to see if the head is salvageable, except for the stator cover, as he needs it for his Lite, which tested good. Interior was spotless.

Any theories? Anyone else something like this happen? These engines are usually bulletproof so :dunno:.

Not yet. Hoping the head didn't get smacked and is reusable. I will eventually post a for sale on the part-out of what's left.

Wow! This is a new level of destruction. Got the head off. A couple of the head bolts didn't want to come off and I had to use an extractor although I doubt the grenade event had anything to do with it. They were just really tight.

So this motor is completely thrashed. Looks like the connecting rod just decided to leave the chat. The other cylinder looks perfect. No idea if it was over revved or if it was an old defect that decided to manifest itself but it doesn't look like an oil related issue as the big end of the rod is still fine. The valvetrain looked fine and none of the valves dropped but obviously the piston smacked the valves.

I'm not bothering to further dismantle it as it is a complete loss except for the stator and clutch. Tossing it into the recycling scrap pile.PXL_20260502_190720147_resized3110693221491388943.jpgPXL_20260502_190729486_resized4124329650379598987.jpgPXL_20260502_190830654_resized660497065653779534.jpgPXL_20260502_190836244_resized5139131247682191507.jpg

Wow !! Total loss. Maybe the connecting rod let go.
