As I previously stated the AC ProCross brake on the AC sleds I have ridden were not as good as my Phazer brake. I noticed this right away when switching machines.
I got the chance to ride a 2014 El Tigre 6000 and noticed right away the brake felt awesome.Just as good as Phazer and any Yamaha I have ridden before. Then I read a article in magazine that said the 2014 AC's now have the Hayes RMC system off the AC race sled.
Is the Viper getting this same brake system?
Anyone who rode the Vipers think the brake was crap?
Was the reason for the brakes being bad vs Yamaha on AC's I previously rode just because they were all used and not new?

I am hoping to cross this concern off my list and I believe the 2014 AC's have accomplished that.Hope Viper got same treatment.

I myself never worry about it. The amount of time I use my brake is very small. I always leave myself plenty of stopping distance, and keep my following distance within reason. None of my sleds ever had a problem with a reasonable time to stop.

Yes it's the Hayes Brakes on the viper and when I rode it , it felt just as good as the Yamaha brakes couldn't tell the difference.....check that off the list now....lol....

Of course.I didnt hit anything. But it was very noticeable difference.I like being able to use one or two fingers and I would not be comfortable doing that on the AC's I rode until I rode the 2014. Just hoping the Viper is as good as the 2014 AC. Thinking it may be since nobody else has said otherwise.

That's one thing I tested when riding it because that's all I heard was the brakes are junk...well they are not they are one finger opp. and they work the same if not better than Yamaha brakes

Just want the best. The 12,13 AC brakes werent terrible just not what I am accustomed too.Loaded a buddies 10 AC into trailer and darn near did go right through the back of it though.Scared the heck out of me.Just used to good brakes I guess.

Steve , I heard AC was going back to the old days putting the brake on the back side of the secondary clutch to help with cooling, because the brake friction temp. is cooler than the belt temp. that AC been running lately. :tg:

Yes the brakes are the Hayes brakes and very light.

They are also on the drive shaft, just in case anyone did not know.

Thanks 09 ! I was hoping so.
I have a 2013 turbo lxr,and its heavy, just a tick lighter than an apex up front, and it came with the hays breaking system, but it works ok,if you squeeze it hard enough,it is not my yamaha brakes though,i think some of it is where it is located, down low,and it can get hot down there, eventhough you would think with the snow around it,it would not. It will stop you when you have to,but it is not my old wilwood cat breaks of the past,or my apex breaks of old or new lol,but maybe 14 is even better, but like someone stated,i dont use my breaks alot either.

Old thread, but have a newbie viper brake question- 2015 M-TX 162, I had to leave my sled due to an unforeseen (aren't they all) navigation error which left me in a place I was not confident trying to ride out of. I parked my machine and set the brake and skied out. Some seasoned riders are going to go get it for me, but as mentioned, I set the brake. And have read on here (wish I would have read it last week) that setting the brake should be limited to short periods. So what is the likely outcome of setting the brake for 6 days straight? Trying to brief the retrieval guys. Thank you for any insight

It’s usually fine function wise but release it slowly. Odds are it also is not really holding after the first day though. Hope it wasn’t real steep.

No not very steep at all, nearly flat. I chose the spot based on the level qualities and the knowledge my #*$&@ was not likely to be the person riding it out of there so aimed to leave it where I could truthfully state it was in a good place to start from.

I was worried it might be locked or something, not working is fine.

Thanks for the reply, very much appreciated.

Wish you would have took a pic of where you left it! Can’t imagine thinking skiing down would be easier than sled. Sure as heck wouldn’t trust someone else to get it down if that bad. Can you explain the situation? No snow here and no riding so this really sounds like a good story.
