OK - so its time for me. Just said goodbye to my original 2006 Apex RTX. Was such a great machine!
A local dealer (Maine) has a new 2020 L-TX SE for 12,999. I must say I thought the orange and blue looked horrible in pictures but in person its actually kind of hot! The 2021 SE is 15,899 and the LE is 17,899. Thats a lot more money for a 21. Normally it would be a no-brainer to get the 2020 but I love that they added a chaincase plug, updated rollover valve and better heat exchanger hose for 2021.
Any thoughts or advice appreciated. Also - Ive never snowchecked before. How much have they been willing to bargain on the listed snowcheck prices on sidewinders?

I will be ordering a 2021. Likely a SE as I don't want the extra electronic wiring on my suspension. I can order the heated seat as an option.
I spoke to one of my local dealers and they assured me it would not be anywhere near msrp.
We will see what their idea of "anywhere near" means once I get serious.

Holy crap to 17899. Back in 17 they were about $1500 off on the LE, plus a killer deal on the full 5 year warranty!
Only way to get an LE back then was spring surge buy, and the LE did come with a few extra option# too, like jacket, heated seats, QS3r shocks, oh and the RR suspension that never made it’s way!

When I ordered my '18 I got $1500 off MSRP. Basically what was offered without me asking for more. I don't like beating my dealer up too much...#1 I want them to stay in business so I hope they make a little money #2 There is not that much markup on these sleds. #3 I want to stay on his good side when it comes to scheduling service.

I think you still have to snowcheck in order to get an LE. It still comes with the good shocks and other goodies but even 1,500 off would still be 16,400 vs the 2020 for 12,999. Of course it would have the fancy shocks and and other updates like the chaincase drain bolt.

I have a 2019 LTX-DX that I added QS3R shocks to, and as far as I am concerned it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I would not hesitate to buy a 2020 leftover. I have not had any issues with the rollover valve in 5,000 miles, but then again, I have kept it upright. You can check with the dealer, but my recollection is that the improved rollover valve was on the 2020 sleds anyway. I don't know about the chain case plug, but I have a dealer do my maintenance so I wouldn't be touching it anyway. As to the upgraded heat exchanger hose, I suspect you can either retrofit it, or buy the aftermarket guard to protect the hose. Again, it has not been an issue on my Sidewinder. The bottom line is that with @$3,000-5,000 in savings, you can do a lot of upgrades on your 2020 and still have some gas money left in your pocket. I would get the leftover and spend $2,000 on upgraded QS3R shocks; you won't regret it.

Go for the 2020. I bought my 17 as a leftover Demo in 18 with 47 miles on it of which I put 40 miles on it test driving it. LOL. I paid 10999 studded with a demo and Yamaha rebate. These things are getting crazy expensive!

I have the 17 SE. Don’t overlook the SE model. Yea it doesn’t have the adjustable shocks but the shock package on them isn’t bad. The heated roll over is on the 2020. The money you save you can put a BOP drive shaft bearing saver on it and few other upgrades. I say the 20 is the better deal. I don’t think I will ever spring check a new one again You get taken to the cleaners on price! For what ? Extra warranty?

I definitely think I'm leaning towards the 2020. Im sure the SE suspension will feel amazing compared to my 2006 Apex anyway. Im mostly pissed that they finally added a chaincase drain plug but thats not worth a few thousand dollars. Maybe Ill be able to add a 2021 cover at some point. The other nice thing about the 2020 is I can bring it home now and then prepare it during the comfort of the summer (studs, BOP shaft saver, snowtrackers or pilots, etc) instead of trying to do everything when it arrives in the fall/early winter.

It is not a chaincase drain plug. It is an oil level check plug. Remove plug, fill till oil comes out and put plug back in. It’s too high up to be a drain

Just get yourself a good measurement device and add 15 ounces of chaincase fluid. No worries. Don’t listen to manual. It’s been mentioned on here many times. The only way I would jump on a new one is if the driveshaft bearing is addressed. The 2020 SE is better looking anyway!!!!I definitely think I'm leaning towards the 2020. I have a 20 se and love it! Only thing I did was bop shaft saver and put qs3 in the back. Front shocks work pretty dam good imo. Just backed the rebound out to 3 clicks and they work good. I was going to upgrade the front but after a Season on it I’m going to leave them. I also changed out the dash panel to a blue one to tone it down a bit. I didn’t like looking at all the orange in front of me.
