The maverick is the stock track which is garbage.

Ya, the Maverick track was the stock track on all the 4 stroke mountain sleds since like 2006. At least all MTX Apexes and MTX FX Nytros. Seems lots of guys thought that track just wouldn't push the sled trough the snow very well -- seemed to get stuck in places other tracks, like the Extreme, wouldn't get stuck of in place on the same sled, same spot, well you get the idea. Lots of guys replace the Mav track with one of the two tracks you mentioned, which it seems are consensus the best Mountain sled tracks on the market. Will be interestingvto see how Yammi's new track, the Ascent performs. It's the track on the 2012 MTX FX Nytros.

So im looking at the power claw in a 162.
So far stock everything else.
Any comments from people running a 162 track with a N-A nytro?
I'm wondering if the machine can power a big track like that (in the west coast mountains) with no boost.

Theycome stock in a 162" version, and that engine produces a lot of torque, so I'd say it willspin that track fine. But if you want to wheelie up a mountain I'd say boost would be in order.

The power claw works great and holds up well on the trails to. I have about 1700 miles on the one I have. (08 APEX MTX)

And the last thing is that they sell the Powerclaw with either with a notch or without a notch.
They say:
" This track has a notched profile to accomodate sleds with or without heat exchangers built on underside of tunnel"
With or without - not sure what this is about.
Did you get a 'notched' track or a regular one?

I put a power claw 162" on my '08 last year along with the avid anti-ratchet drivers made for the powerclaw track. My Power claw is not notched and did not have any problems with my intunnel cooler.
OH Man!!!! What a difference it made. My sled is N/A with stock gearing and stock clutching and it worked incredible. I really struggled with the idea of dropping one tooth on the top gear like a lot of people have done in the forum but after talking with everyone i came across I finally decided not to change it out at this point. I am doing the clutch this year because there is some more performace to be had with modifing the stock clutching but last year I did not have any issues running the stcok clutching and stock gearing with the longer track.
I did not notice any overall drop in performance with the longer track. the only area i did notice a slight difference was on the trails it pushed a little more in the corners because you have more track on the ground but it was really managable and by the 3rd corner it wasnt a problem for me.
I really dont think you can go wrong with either track. They are both MAJOR improvements over the stock track.
If you run the stock drivers or any of the standard anti-ratchet drivers you will have to trim out some of the rubber nubs on the outside of the power claw track. they interfer with the outside drivers. it is really easy to do. in TTABS sticky at the top of this forum he explains how and what to do to the track to make things work. I actually used the Avid anti-ratchet drivers made for the Powerclaw and didnt have to mess with cutting the rubber nubs off. The Powerclaw track also come half clipped and i was told to get the best performace out of the track on the nytro it needs to be fully clipped. some people i believe run them only half clipped without any problems as well.

I went with PowerClaw 162 and dropped down to the 18 top. It went everywhere I wanted it too and places I would have never tried the year before. Granted I went from a 153 CE to the 162 - however it was night and day different from the 20 top gear to the 18 combined with the track.

For west coast cascade concrete I have heard the CE are the better track, especially in the 2.5" lug height.mateo said:

I personally went with the 7 tooth drivers to keep them as close to stock as possible. My thinking was since my sled is N/A I did not want to change the clearance between the drivers, track and the front cooler.
I have read that running a taller lugged track and closing in the clearances near the front of the track has the potenial of constricting the flow of snow casueing drag on the track and thus slowing down the track speed and robbing horsepower which all make sense to me.
Not sure if that is the case but that was the reasoning behind the driection I took
A lot of people on here say that they have not had any issues running larger drivers and larger lugged tracks like the CE. However, i think the people who have fancy air pumps on their sleds make so much more horsepower that the drag on the track is not that big of a deal. The conditions of the snow also effects the flow of snow around the track and a lot of the time we ride in what is fondly called sierra cement that is really wet heavy snow In my head my decision makes sense anyways HeHe.
