Can I use 17.5" shock on 16.5" shock sled?

    I have a 2009 nytro mtx that has oem 16.5" front shocks. 2008 nytro mtx came stuck with 17.5" front shocks. Can I install 17.5" front shocks on my sons 2009 nytro mtx?

    Shock body length is more important, this will determine where the shock bottoms out. Usually to long won’t matter as long as it doesn’t cause something to hit or bind.

    Thank you. We are going to try 17.5" shocks off an 08 mtx. Do you think we should reduce tension on the springs?

    Why don't you just remove the front shocks, put the front end up in the air, and measure the eye to eye distance?
