Fired up the RX yesterday for a ride. Seemed to be alright, even though I had to run it with the choke on to load it on the trailer. Got it to the trails and had same problem. Figured that it was just a dirty carb or something and thought that it would work itself out after 10-15 of riding. Rode almost 60 miles and it never cleared up. At some points it go worse. Sled wouldn't go any faster then 40mph, and the engine would rev up any more then about 7000rpms and wouldn't run at all without the choke on. Am I looking at just dirty carbs or is there something else going on? Wasn't getting any popping or backfiring at all really. I just want to get a feel for what others thing before i go thru the work of taking the carbs off and cleaning them. Thanks!

Bought an 05 rx1 earlier this season..thought the guy was selling me a pile of crap. The sled was clean and the price was right if it was a minor issue. So I took it home. Took it to a friend of mine who has been working on sleds (engine work) his whole life and as soon as i fired it up he said it was running on two cylinders. took the carbs apart..cleaned everything and now she rips! Before this the sled would bog down and if you held it to the bars take off to about 50 mph and wouldn't go over that. To me it sounds like you have the same issue. This sled sat for 5 years and had 250 miles on it.
Your pilot jets need to be cleaned.

You may also throw a set of plugs in it after riding so far with the choke on...just in case.
My 05 is now requiring that I hit the throttle to start it when warm. Still running like a scalded cat though, so I hope that everything will wait till the end of riding this season. One night, running down the lake at WOT it stumbled from 90's on the dreammeter to 60's, let off for a couple seconds each time, then tagged it and it was fine, both times, hasn't done that since. Friday night I had her up to 111 on dreammeter down the lake, best speed since increasing the track to a 136"

Cleaning, inspecting and syncing the carbs are a must do task for the beginning of every season. This simple but time consuming task will eliminate a lot of aggravation during the very short sledding season.
