I really don't know if I've just really messed up the sync but I seemed to have dropped a cylinder during the process.

I may have just fowled a plug but I'm not sure..here's the story...

I'm using a ball style sync tool (my mercury tool is at the cottage...) and I got all the balls lined up nicely as per the instructions but it actually sounded alittle rougher then before. So..of course I thought I'd do the process over again. The sled started to run out of fuel so I hooked up the pump lines and let it run to fill up the bowls. This is when it started to act funny. It felt like I had a vaccum leak or the slide were hanging up. It would idle high then I could blip the throttle and the idle would come down to almost normal..then it started to miss. I unhooked the fuel pumps and put the sync tool back on and everything seemed fine still as far as the sync but it was all lower on the gauge. Like I said I may have just fowled a plug (I don't have any spares here!!!!) but it just seems alittle strange. It runs fine off idle but it may not be that noticable just on the stand..it seems very snappy still! I went through the carbs to make sure I didn't suck up something when I ran the bowls dry but everything is clean.

Am I just overlooking the obvious? am I dumb???lol!!

If everything is lower, then it sort of sounds like you have vacuum leak(s) somewhere. Loose clamp on the carb boot, boot folded over??? Hose off somewhere????????

I checked everything when I had the carbs off (to check them)..no luck. Maybe I'll pull the caps off and make sure there isn't an oring pinched or something...

If it was about to run out of gas it may have got a drop of water from the bottomof one of the carbs. Try some isopropal.

I took the carbs apart and cleaned them...

I do believe it's a plug I ran it on the stand hard tonight and it was breaking down all through the rpm range. Just a coinsidence I guess that it happened at the same time as the sync.

Thanks for the input guys.

Well...it's not plugs. I've searched for a vaccum leak, cleaned the carbs and changed plugs...then I noticed that the gauge itself has fine tuning jets in it. I did a quick test by sucking on the tube and behold one is significantly easier to move. Now I have to figure out how to setup the stupid gauge!!! I've also realized why it has never left the bottom drawer...................

If you have any air leakage between the air box and the front of your carbs you will get rough idle and poor performance through the entire power band. This is a quirk of CV carbs. I had exactly the same problem after an oil change.

Sometimes I need to prove how "smart" I am.....all of the hoses that run to the tool are cracked and leaking....I'm sure that has an effect on accuracy!!!!!!!

Ya...exactly!! 5 days later lol. Tools need maintenance too I guess. Now I have a carb sync tool that I won't need for another 5 years :).
