what are you guys using for chain case lube? Manual says to use synthetic chain case lube. But yamaha does not make a synthetic chain case lube. It appears that the only lube they make patt # ACC-CHNCS-LU-Be is not synthetic. I know there is aftermarket stuff but been trying to use all yamalubes and keep my documentation
in-case i have a warranty claim down the road. whats in this thing from the factory?

I have Amsoil in there now. When my SECOND top gear showed wear it was with the Yamaha Chaincase lube. Chain set 1.5 turns out.

Arctic cat chain case lube is in it new ... I put Lucas gear lube in and been working good
I wouldn't get too worried about what you put in the chaincase. Any issues that arise will be due to the design and parts, not the lube. I would use what's recommended. Cat synthetic is fine. I like the Klotz black lube with graphite. It's easier to see the level in the window over the clear stuff.

75-90w synthetic gear lube with some Lucas oil additive.
Sorry for the long winded reply.
After my chain case rebuild I am running 75-90 synthetic with Lucas oil additive.
After rebuilding my chain case and studying the internals a little bit I believe the top drive gear bushing wear is a result of the poor fit of the top REVERSE gear and shaft. It is the reverse gear that interlocks with the drive gear to drive the top shaft. That reverse gear/ shaft fit is loose causing the whole assembly to wobble on the shaft and wear that bushing. The only time that top gear is not supported by the reverse gear is in reverse, and there is no way that bushing is wearing that fast only in reverse. I also believe that over time that poor fit causes the reverse gear to "spit out " the drive gear over time due to wear on the teeth that interlocks the 2 gears together in drive. I have seen 3 Artic Cats with @4000 miles slide into neutral on the trail and the top gears were worn, 1 even had the shift lock update done after 1 incident to no avail.. This problem may have been addressed in MY 2015 with better gear/shaft fitment.I have Amsoil in there now. When my SECOND top gear showed wear it was with the Yamaha Chaincase lube. Makes sense thats what I saw also on failures. The wear is on a taper with more towards the outside. They might never tighten up the tolerances out of fear of the reverse gear not sliding. Hopefully the EVO top gear I have in there now will help the small toothed part is wider. Engages reverse gear more. Not something I would ever take a chance on though. 2500-3000 mi that top gear gets checked. So far 2/2 were wore.

Hey Cannondale, I have 2000 miles on my 2015 and my seasons over, I was just going to use something to suck the oil out instead of ripping the whole chaincase apart but after seeing you and a few others having issues with the top gear wearing, it has me worried. Maybe I will have to take mine apart and inspect it, is it just the bushing in the upper gear wearing or the whole gear itself? Was there play when the gear was mounted? Just trying to get an idea what to look for exactly when I rip it apart.
It's the bushing. Gears are around $20. Buy one before you take it apart. We have gotten 3000mi out of them but we're very wore at that point.

I think the bushing wear is due to the upper reverse gear/shaft fitment. I helped install some Hyvo gears on a Steve Taylor upgraded shaft last night and the fitment seemed better. Unfortunately nobody makes a hardened/upgraded upper reverse gear.

Hey Cannondale, did you ever get some miles on the new EVO top gear? If so how has it been holding up? Were you able to just purchase the gear from them or did you have to change the chain and everything to, I can't find the gear on there website.
I got about 300mi on it at end of season so not sure yet on wear. Just give them a call.

Just changed out my gears for asphalt. Almost 6000 miles on stock ones 2800 with turbo and no excessive wear. went with EVO gears.

You seen no wear on your stock gears with 6000 miles on them? That's weird how some are having the bushings worn out with such low miles. How was the "wobble bearing" just started reading about that today on the forum, that has me concerned to!!
That's very weird. Never saw a stock top gear with 2000 mi or more that wasn't wore. I have had two stock ones wear already with 6000 mi.
