Hi,
I am preparing my sidewinder for the season. In order to change the chain case oil, do I have to take the exhaust off? Is there a video on this or some clear instructions?
Also a better and simpler way too change the engine oil which is also quite a job to get to it...
Thanks,

How many miles on your machine?Hi,

There's two ways basically to change the chain case fluid.
1. Remove the case cover and oil tank. This way you can clean the case and the magnets. It's not too bad if you are mechanically inclined
2. Remove the rev actuator and use a small pump to pull the oil from the tank.
As far as changing the oil, barn of parts sell a really nice drain tray to lay under the tank to redirect the oil . Other the. That it's pretty straight forward

Yes you need to remove the muffler. I would do the chain case and oil and filter at the same time. Then you can drain everything at once and even remove the chain case cover/oil tank while it's empty. Not a difficult job just takes time.

Yes do both engine oil and Chaincase oil together.
Muffler bolts are stubborn, I used some Kroil prior. Heat on the bolts would be other method. Add HI temp never seize on them afterwards because muffler removal is only way to adjust chain tension. Finger tight then back off 1 turn.
You will have to make a tool for the removal of the 2 hard to get at torx bolts on muffler. I did as someone else on other Thread suggested, cut a torx socket and used. 5/16 ? Wrench.
There is a stick under Frequently Asked Questions about easy engine oil change out, it works nice.
I recommend taking the chain case cover off for inspection and clean up. My chain was rubbing on inside chain case nub and caused some aluminum glitter in the oil, thus not 1.5 turns from finger tight, DO 1 turn from finger tight.
Your owners manual has a section for removal and reinstalling the reverse gear actuator.
So yeah go for it but be ready and expect it to take a while your first time!

It's a pain in the #*$&@ no matter how slice it. I just sucked my chain case oil from the top, but be prepared you won't get all of it out.

I do it once a year when I change my oil and it's really not that bad. Now if it was something you needed to do often then yes it would be a pita. It's a pain in the #*$&@ no matter how slice it. I just sucked my chain case oil from the top, but be prepared you won't get all of it out.

Yes thank you. I did it last year but only the engine oil not the chain case so I didn't remove anything... just redirected to drain the oil but still a mess... now I want to take everything off and do it properly..
By the way what is the best product to clean the chain case inside once I get the cover off? Is it just some regular part cleaner? Is there any other product I would need to clean everything inside? Then to lubricate inside after cleaning it? Of course last will be to fill back with chain case oil.. but was just wondering about the actual chain case cleaning it inside process...
