Chaincase overfill anyone?

What does your manual say? It say's, if you have reverse to set the level at the Rev line on the dipstick. If you do not have reverse to set the level at the Std line on the dipstick. Can't go wrong by following the factory owners manual.

Something I noticed with it. If the oil level goes completely down and wipes off of all your gears and such, ie, after sitting for a week, all the oil pools in the bottom and the level rises. After riding a little, level goes DOWN since it sticks to upper parts. The difference is quite significant. I fill mine to the rev line AFTER riding, so when it sits for a week, it ends up showing at the std line. Quite frankly though, you could fill this thing up to the rim of the hole for the dipstick and I don't think it would be any problem.

Hmmmm, very interesting........makes sence too.

We may be beating this discussion into the ground but seeing how there isn't much snow to ride this can be constructive.
I would think to get the most accurate level would be to check it after letting it sit overnight and top it off at whatever level you choose.
I guess I come from the old school and like to follow the manual. I don't like to overfill the oil in my cars either as it is not recommended and so I tend to do it with all my machines. To each his own.

Now get out there and ride!

Which manual though.

Shop manual - 250 mL

Owners manual - fill to rev. full mark (170 ml)

Another example - track tension for 05 RX-1:

Owners manual
- adjustment section 1.0 - 1.18" droop for RX-1 with 22 lbs
- specification secion 1.18" - 1.38" droop for RX-1 with 22 lbs

Dealer recommended
- 1.18" - 1.38" droop with 22 lbs

Shop manual
- don't know (I don't own a copy - not available in Canada yet)

Yamaha could use a little work in the documentation department (something seems to get lost in the translation....).

I go by the owners manual that comes with the machine. It covers the basics and anything you need to know to properly maintain it. I don't have a shop manual and I stay away from the dealer so I don't have any conflicting specs. Break it in by the book, ride it by the book, maintain it by the book and it's under warranty for a year so no worries. Just need some decent snow so I can get it broken in. I've had it for almost a month and only able to put about 60 miles on it. Pathetic! Can you say global warming?
