I am interested if there are many people that have had chaincase issues due to an aging reverse chain - snapping, links breaking, etc.
I replaced the main chain in Summer '23 with 15,000 km and was wondering if i should upgrade the reverse chain as well this summer.
Sled now has shy of 17,000km and plan to run it into the low 20's.
Thanks

I had to replace my reverse chain around 25000k
When in reverse it started skipping and made a terrible grinding sound obviously

For the sake of not breaking it, or worst it taking out the rest of the chain case I would do it next time your in the chaincase… You take care of your machine and your machine will take care of you is how I see it. I was told by a good source that if you run lower gear unit oil in your chaincase that they use on boats ( Mercury) you get no wear on any of parts or chains and when you change it there is no metal or metallic in the oil. I found that interesting but have not tried it yet…

In general, even brand new I think they're too loose. I wish there was some kind of a small tensioner or something. Seems like trouble waiting to happen.I am interested if there are many people that have had chaincase issues due to an aging reverse chain - snapping, links breaking, etc.

I have often thought the same when it was apart. Its so loose it looks like it could skip a tooth spinning around in there at god knows what rpm.In general, even brand new I think they're too loose. I wish there was some kind of a small tensioner or something. Seems like trouble waiting to happen.
Too bad there isnt a way to take a link (or two) out. At a minimum a tensioner would not be too much to ask for.

Mine started skipping as well around 25000kms so swapped it out. That chain is always spinning.
