Bought a new 05 Vector which I still have
24K miles
Put a new track in my 05 Vector ER couple of weeks ago. Ever since then, SOMETIMES when I take it out of reverse then give it gas there's a pretty good CLUNK from the drivetrain, Doesn't do it all the time.

I'm 95% sure I got everything back together right and I didn't mess with the reverse linkage. Could the chain be too loose or tight? I adjusted the chain with the "finger tight then back off 1/2 turn" method.

Any ideas?

I just read Irv's post in the General Discussion forum. The clunk I'm getting is loud and has never been there before.

is it popping out of gear? or does it seem to be under a load then "clunk" and it is in gear?

No, it's when it's disengaging from reverse. After I go in reverse, I put the lever back to forward, and give it a little gas and sometimes it goes CLUNK....like the reverse u shaped caliper inside of the chaincase won't disengage on it's own like it used to.

I can only move the brake rotor back n forth one inch total...so I'm thjinking my chain is set too tight. But I haven't loosened it up yet.

its the same on mine, has been since I bought her, & I've had my case apart many times. No worries. If you are still concerned, just push in the reverse lever until it stops when disengaging. The clunk is the gearbox & handle seating back into reverse under power.

My 2011 Venture does the same thing brought it into the dealer and they checked it out and said its normal. My o5 rx has reverse and it does not do it. I also noticed on the 2011 the clunk is there if i teter on grader ridge croossing a road when I take off the same clunk is there. Ride it!
