I'm looking to put an ulmer clutch kit in my 12' nytro. My problem is, my sled only has 40 miles on it. Should I wait until after the break in period to install the clutch kit? Or am I ok to just install it now? Thanks in advance

Thanks. The previous owner of my sled was an old man. He bought it brand new and only put 38.5 miles on it. Do you know what the suggested break in is for the nytro?

haha im not going to get my hopes up until I see the highs below 32!
Yeah chaincase wont hurt. Other than that I would grease the skid and drain the fuel for fresh fuel as well.
Keep in mind yoru still in break in so maybe hitting the trails this weekend might help you get there faster!

The whole sled was greased when I bought it lol the dealership I got it from was really good about keeping everything good to go. They also filled the tank with fresh premium gas lol

"The Owners Manual is a little vague on a recommended break in period (0 - 100 miles avoid prolonged operation above 6000 r/min, 100-300 avoid prolonged operation above 8000 r/min)".
My '09 had just 347 on it when I got it 2 years ago, ran it like I was gonna ride it & hasn't let me down yet....

Every new sled I get I break them in the way I ride them , for the first 200 miles just don't go WOT for a Long period of time , keep that down to a minimum...
Just have fun and ride it like you stole it !

I believe the engine will fully broken in by around 800-1000 mi. I say go ahead and put the new clutch kit in but don't sweat it if the top rpm is a little low. As you get to that 800-1000 mile mark the rpm should be very close to where it should be. I gained about 600 rpm on my apex and about 300 rpm on my viper during break in.

These engines take 2000+ miles to be fully broken in. I was still gaining at 2800 miles the first year.I believe the engine will fully broken in by around 800-1000 mi. - something from 2019!
dont worry about the break-in period, that is just to cover their (yamaha) bases.
the best way to break-in the motor is motoman method
http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
for reference.
the best thing to do is flog the bastage! your sled will have more power and less piston/ring/sleeve wear.
