Clutch marks

Does the sled free wheel ok? I had a similar issue on my Apex once. Burn marks on the clutch, resistance, low top speed. Mine was a bad drive bearing. I know it is highly unlikely on a 200 mile sled but sometimes you never know!

I'm game. Parking is a bit snug for long trailers though. I'd have top think on where to get a good run to go fast safely. One of the lakes or Willow Flowage would be my guess.

I'm watching the jackshaft bearing. I noticed a bunch of grease on the surface of the seal. Not sure if it was smeared on at assembly or if it leaked out. I wiped the surface clean and will revisit after today's ride. Taylor County opened so it's not too long a drive to find trails. I just hope the snow holds up.

The tach is not accurate enough to give a decent engagement reading. Only repeatable way to do it is by feel and the recall feature. Basically I am to point where unless someone did a top speed run for over a mile I completely ignore ANY RPM observations they quote here unless they used the recall feature and used it properly.

Turn sled off. Let gauge go off. Start fully warmed sled. Very gently touch throttle building rpm until clutch engages. Immediately let off throttle. Push button in to get Max rpm. That reading is only accurate and repeatable way to get a engagement rpm.

Even then it is subjective and so many factors can change it. Belt deflection has HUGE effect on engagement. Proper engagement is whatever makes you happy.

That said TD I would like to go up to your place and do some riding and testing. PM me.

You really want to know what the recall is? Try 4k range.

It hangs then flashes then pulls back. When I can get the RPM steady I can run about 3600 and be just moving. I have a hard time doing less than 8-10mph.

I'm not sure, but could I be riding off or over the little flat on the start of the clutch ramps?

Mine was that same bearing.

Wow 4000! Something is wrong. No worries. Will figure it out. Yes. Next weekend Hazelhurst. PM me the details. Gonna get you dialed in and then take you to the Harrison Hills trails. My favorite trails in WI!

I got about 100 miles on my setup. Ulmer primary spring/STM weights. Secondary machined red spring 6-2. I got idle belt squael and low black marks. Sounds like it might be slipping in the 5k rpm range. Top speed is 88mph. No low speed issues. I've had friends that could smell my belt from behind on occasions.

My rpm is like yours td for top rpm. Mine sits around 8600-8800.

The squeal is your deflection. If not really bad leave it. Otherwise you are to tight. Try 3/2 wind on that red spring or get some washers and shim helix with stock pink spring in there.

I hope to get my oil drain setup figured out this week so I van drop the oil. I should have 300 miles.

Still low on rpm with cotc. Erratic engagement, low top rpm. Seeing 8600_8700 pinned at upper 70's in somewhat loose conditions.

At 60 cruising the revs are upper 7's pushing 8.

I think that the 21/49 gearing may be messing with both clutch setups.

Steve something is bind in one of TD's clutches. Can't tell which without seeing them.

Yes definitely. Even my primary is pretty tight and I have almost 4000mi on. Has to be clean to work well. Any Ideas how to loosen up the pads without splitting clutch?

I soaked mine in hot soapy water and worked sliding sheave until it was free. Dawn dish soap. Also used sprayer to rinse.
