Clutching on the cheap

Try the 3.2 in the tip and leave your shims. If it is a little high after that reduce 1 shim at a time until its at 8950-9000 on a good hard trail at wot. should come in at 8650-8700 and climb to max 8950-9000.

I will give that a try. I am from New Brunswick in Eastern Canada. I still have to drive 3 hrs for snow so testing is slow. lol

I have to drive 1 hr so almost as bad but i went to colorado for thanksgiving and went to houghton, mi for a weekend and have about 300 miles this year.

Good to know. This is both on topic and off topic, I have the stage 1 mpi with the gems controller and on a wot launch mine will occasionally have a bobble before if builds boost because the stock fueling plus the gems fueling makes it go way rich before the boost comes in. Unfortunately if you talk to mpi it's something they're aware of and you're quite limited on what can be done when using the gems, you can take fuel away from the wot settings to clean up the bobble on launch but it gets too lean on a longer run. Mine is engaging at 2800 right now so I've got some springs coming that will raise clutch engagement and I'm hoping by doing that it'll clear it up and have no bobble. Just something for the mpi turbo guys to think about when doing clutching. I don't know yet if the higher engagement will solve it but I'm thinking there's a real good chance it will. Those running a pcv shouldn't have an issue with this as the fuel at the lower rpm range should be easy to control more so than using the gems

I had the bobble in colorado and adjusted my low rpm trim and it was gone. I was to rich. but that didnt mess with my fuel at the upper end. I just got reflash and now it doesnt idle when warm so i need to adjust my map for idle. but it does start better. just need to lean the map some, hopefully wednesday.

Ya I think the pcv is more adjustable at different rpm with different throttle positions. With the gems since on a launch in going wot and it's too rich all I can do is adjust wot but then when I hold it for 500 feet or more it runs lean, really hoping raising my engagement 500 rpm or so will clear it right up although I really like the low 2800 rpm engagement

my engagement is about 2900. Higher engagement should help some but it sounds like your rich also. Did you do reflash?

At WOT I'm at 11.5-11.8. I see mid 14's when cruising. On the ride in Houghton i got 16 mpg which was better than others that were with us.

Yupp basically the same numbers as me, when cruising I keep mine 12.5-13, but wot never climbs above 11.8. Just can't adjust the bobble on launch and still run safe on the long end, will report back when I get some springs to try

What is your top speed. I've seen 114 mph with 1/4 mile run. clutches machined max is 117 mph with gearing.

Totally stock clutches with stock helix, gets to 109 in 1000' then just hits rev limiter, secondary spring is def binding up but pulling the helix out tomorrow to machine the neck for more shift and the groove to try and stop the spring from binding so quick, I've heard the pink secondary spring won't bind, is that true?
