I have 08 apex ltx gt 40th and I quess I'm willing to give up the good looks of the stock windshield for some better protection. Looking at cobra tall or Yamahas tall shield. Mainly for more hand protection, anyone using these shields? Do they help? Any problems using stock snowmobile cover. THANKS.

i have an APEX and when the temp drops i put the yamaha tall windshield on , the stock cover fits fine, the difference behind it is unbelievable! much warmer, hands and body. I only put it on when the temps get below 15 deg f

Morning, I have used both the Yamaha extra tall shield with the strut rods and the Cobra tall shield. Although the Yamaha shield offered slightly better wind protection I like the Cobra way better. Looks way more sporty and offers much better protection than the Yamaha mid height shield, which I also have. Good luck with your choice! :rocks: Regards, Chuck

diff shield

I have a mid to tall shield on my gt. When i get above 110 or so it folds over with wind. It must be slowing me down 3-4 mphs. I havent seen over 118 on dreamometer since I removed the stock one. otherwise it offers greater protection and had to remove my hand gaurds as they were rendered useless with it's addition in place of stock shield. It does look like grand pappy's pappy;'s sled now though

Another solution is to carry the 4" extension that clips on.
I use it for low temp riding. It really helps. I have used them for about 6 years.

Thanks for the info. Anyone having problems with using Yamaha snowmobile cover with the tall windshields. Thanks

I spent over an hour this morning trying to find the windshield extensions. The companies that sold them, no longer have them. I think the demand was so small, they stopped selling them. If they don't look cool, I guess they won't sell. They sure are handy.

The Canadian company that made them spent a lot of time designing the plastic clips that hold them on. They had to withstand the wind.
