Had this the other day after installing my extension kit, luckily as soon as i turned the key over the code went away. Best advice is to check the harness all the way to the actual sensor, if you have not already. if not the other information i have found on testing is that the sensor should have around 500 ohms as 68 degrees. Also, check all connections as well as the wiring, a corroded pin may be the problem. The wires to the cps are the black/blue and the grey wires coming out of where the stator is. Search function helps a lot.

im wondering if it isnt a starter issue for some reason. when i disconect my buddies sensor on the same sled it still turns over. im getting like 450amps going to my starter and it just loads everythihng down. the engine isnt locked though because it can be turned by hamnd no problem.

You'll get code 12 if the engine doesn't turn over when the ignition is in start position. If it's not turning over follow this: http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?p=931403#931403

Do you know where the starter is grounded at?

Starter is grounded to the engine block. Yamaha had a problem with starters staying engaged after the engine starts which is caused by a faulty starter relay. If this happens it'll destroy the starter. Sledstart sold indicator lights that warned if the relay malfunctioned.

yea i just replaced the start relay about a week ago. then had the sled parked outside my garage for a couple days and when i tried starting it again that was the beggining of my troubles. ill have to check the condition of the ground conection. if nothing else ill pull the starter out
i had to jump the starter relay a few times whent he old one failed so that might have paid a big factor in this issue

jumping across the relay will not hurt the starter. Can you still jump across the relay and start it? follow the diagnostics link I gave you.

nope if i jump it across the relay it just loads up the system as if i were turning the key

Check the wire between the starter and relay for a short. If that's OK then most likely it's a bad starter.
