What s everyone think about them,is it neccessary with a time, is it noticable, is it louder.i have a hurricane bundle tune. Just wondering if its worth it

I wonder if the guys seeing higher intake temperature are mainly from the states. Up here in Canada the ambient air temperature is usually cold. When riding the open trails in Quebec it's considered a nice day when the temperature is minus 15 celcius . And not unusual to see temperature's a lot colder. I wonder if the combination of colder air and higher trail speed would equate to colder intake temperature.
The tune provider's up here all recommend the CAI and talk about better throttle response and high HP numbers. I have not ran the CAI until this year . I'm running a different tune this year and was advised to also run a CAI. So time will tell if the choice was wise.

I guess my question is for the naysayers then, why do the tuners and many performance shops recommend it for the bigger tunes/higher Hp builds if it's not making power?

Why?
About $75-$100 pure profit. If one sells it, they all have to sell it.

Want more power, get it out in front of the hood where its RAMMING air into that already too small turbo that's heating up the air too much. Be prepared to have lean AF ratios and correct that issue!!!

I agree with you there. There were plenty of external cai's on the 1100's and tunes to compensate for such. I think it's just more of an aesthetics issue with the 998 making it external. From everything I've seen, even as a "warm air intake" it makes more power.

I just don't see mine sucking in warm air my filter is right at the frogskin in the front of the motor? (Same style as Rockerdan's) I can see warm air getting sucked in at idle but not when moving
I added these moflow vents for clutch cooling

I also have MoFlows and on top of that I added my own vent and frogskin in the front panel behind intercooler. My filter is also right at the vent screen, and if you look at it, it has belt dust being inhaled into it, think about it, if it was always sucking clean fresh cold air the filter wouldn't be black from belt dust. It could only be black if it was indeed sucking warm underhood air and belt dust.

Don't take my word for it, it's easy to test the air temp incoming to the filter, just throw a temp gauge up there and have a look what is actually entering the filter for air temps. Another thing to think about, the engine is inhaling and consuming more air thru its intake coming into the turbo and thru the engine than what is getting pushed thru that one lowly factory vent trying to feed it from vehicle movement, hence the reason that just putting an extension on the filter and extending it to the outside the hood it goes way lean and needs a boatload more fuel.

The stock airbox runs cooler intake temps all the time and even more so when it's warmer out. We see it on every machine that runs a "WAI". Stick it outside the hood and you can call it a "CAI". Then, and only then will it not suck warm underhood air and belt dust.

Not to derail CAI post , installed Mo flow vents this year , you can hang a paper towel at idle and see vent (a) pulling air.
