Hey all,
So, copper donuts... How long do they last? Do they really last more than twice the time that the stock ones do?

I have 1800 miles on one set, and 2700 mile on ghe other set. Still look as good as the day they got put in.

I'm paranoid about the heat shielding below the gas tank, so I'm always checking that. Not worth it for me because they are so easy to get to on a Phazer compared to other models. If it is a big job to get to them (I think the skid needs to be removed in some models) I'd say go for it once the stockers crap out.

They are worth it on the Apex IMHO...

I considered them, but it seems nobody has put 4-5,000 miles on them yet to prove they are any better than stock. Most seem to have 2,000 miles and say they look great, but so do the stock ones at that mileage. Sure seems like they may be the answer, but not enough feedback for me to spend the money. I'm sure after this season we will all know for sure.

1800 miles and my original Yamaha ones were toast.

Mine OEM donuts dont look so hot at 1500 miles and will be replaced so if the copper ones look good at 2000 miles then thats a good thing. Im just thinking about the next wear point!

I don't doubt that, but as much as that may be true, I've seen OEM donuts last for 6000 mi before completely failing too. Copper may be the answer, but I just think a couple reports showing they look great after 2000 mi is not yet proof that they're all that.
I'm waiting until after this season. If there are no failures, and multiple reports of them looking new after 5000 mi, I'll be a believer. JMO

Donuts good at 2000? I just did mine at 1700 and there was no more donut. I had about a quarter donut on each

They're made of a solid chunk of copper. How can they wear? The OEM ones wear out by burning off the graphite and I don't think there is any movement between the two parts to cause a mechanical wear.

What wrecks y pipes/ headers is rattling after oem donuts are shot. Then wear and cracking occur. The copper donuts don't wear out, and thus will prolong the life of your y pipes. This is a no brainer.

Im just thinking why Yamaha doesnt do this if its what we think it is. Yamaha must not think its a no brainer unless the cost are killing them. I think they want something softer to give when the sled twist.

Think about it, keep replacing parts with Yamaha ones and it's more money for them...lots of money. Just think bushings, sliders, idler wheels and donuts, all regularly fail prematurely on our sleds. Go with aftermarket replacements and be done with repetitive repairs.
