I have my 8 tooth Wahl brothers extroverts ready to go on but I think I need a little help. Ok, I understand the extroverts are all I need for drivers. Right?
The RX-1 service manual shows the exact measurements where the stock drivers are to be pressed on to the drive shaft. It looks like the extroverts will go in a different position.
Does some one have the proper measurements from the ends of the driveshaft?
I have heard people mentions "proper timing" of drivers on here before. Is this something more than aligning the arrows on the drivers with a particualr point on the drive shaft?
I have also heard others mention they have "machined" or "trued" their drivers. I do have access to a machine shop and is this something I should have done? If so, how is it done?
What's the best way to get the old and new drivers on and off the driveshaft? I have a small arbor press that may work or I could take it to work and use a hydraulic press if need be. Thanks in advance.

I don't have the specs for the Wahl drivers... Call them. I have always done drivers with a 25 ton press. I do reccommend testing the axle with the drivers installed as soon as you are done, as some tracks have different window center points  Yes I have to re-press a set of drivers of my own.
I can't find my measurements. Call Hartman. I gave them to him when his were all wrong!! Wahl Bros probably won't have them.
Proper timing is simply aligning the arrows. They MUST point in the same direction. It doesn't matter where they are on the shaft as long as they point the same way.
Have the axle "machined". Look up The Sled Nazi and have him throw it in his lathe. The axle will be much smoother if it is balanced. I did not due this and I have a bit of a vibration. I keep saying I'm going to take mine out and send it to him, but haven't had the time.
You need to press on the drivers. DO NOT use a hammer. You will break them.
A word to the wise........ BEFORE you bolt everything up check the alignment. Bolt the chain case side up enough to assure that the axle is where it is supposed to be and lay the track over the drivers. Then measure each side from the track to the tunnel. The distance should be the same on both sides. If it is not you need to adjust the location of the drivers.
Hope this helps!

Thanks guys, I will call Tom Hartman and see if he has the proper measurements. My extroverts are really for a Skidoo and 1/8" smaller where the drive shaft goes through but I called Wahl brothers before I bought them and they said, no problem at all, they've done it many times. Powder Blue

I spoke with Tom Hartman today. He begrudgingly gave me the info on extrovert spacing for the RX-1 Mountain . He made a comment about how I was wanting "free stuff" and now, I wonder if he gave me the right info?
I almost went off but I settled down and we had a nice conversation. The reason I almost did is when I was testing for Dalton last winter he would call me every week for my testing results (which I happily shared). Then I called a dealer in Montana and RX-1 Mountain clutching came up. I asked him what he was setting his sleds up with? he said the HOT NEW Hartman setup. I asked what it consisted of and I about sh!t to hear it was exactly what I had given Tom. So talk about wanting FREE STUFF! Powder Blue

Powder Blue, heres the measurements I used. Butt the Splined end of the shaft against the wall, then put your tape measure to the wall and measure down the shaft, the center of the 1st driver should be 6 3/8" then the center of the 2nd one should be 15 3/16" on center. How I do it is press them on from the smooth bearing side NOT the splined end it will damage the inside of the driver and make sure you have the octagon shape of the drivers linning up with the drive shaft or this too will damage the drivers. Push the 1st one on till its close then measure and push, measure and push till you have the center of the driver in the right place then repeat this for the second driver. Heres a little tip use the collar that is on the shaft to hold the outside drivers from slipping to push on instead of just the side of the driver and you won't distort the driver. And yes you need a press to take off the old drivers as well as the put on the new ones. A 2-3 ton press works fine.

I think most of Hartman's products are relabeled products from someone else. I was very disapointed with my experiences with him last year. I have found also that he does very little of his own testing. The reason that the original measurements he gave me were so far off was because he used the same measurements that he had used for the Mountain Max. The two axles are diferrent lengths.

Spray and Snowfever, thanks for the advice and the support. The measurements Tom gave me seem quite different than the ones you gave me snow fever. I don't have them with me but if I remember right they were something like 4 1/2" from the speedo end of the shaft to the center of the first driver and then 8 3/8" from center to center of the second driver. It looks like he's just measuring in different ways than you. It will be nice to have yours and his measurements to bump against each other.
Spray, You should be receiving a check today. Also, did you ever find a deal on a White knuckle exhaust? Powder Blue

One other thing. How in the world can you "True up" the drivers with those huge points sticking out from the drivers? I guess you could knock the tips of the drivers down so they were symmetrical but is that even worth messing with? This is probably a Sled Nazi (Silver Streak) question. Powder Blue

I will put mine on the lathe to see if they are running true. If you want to ship yours, I'll check it, then turn it if it needs it. Spray's had a little vibration last year. I'm pretty sure a little lathe work would cure it.

Thanks Mr. Streak, I may take you up on that. I'd probably deliver it in person though. I am getting the urge to head down your direction anyway. Maybe even in a couple weeks but, I probably won't have the drivers done by then.
I'd still like to find a good hunting spot down your way. I always see so many deer but it's usually on private property. Powder Blue

You can hunt right here in our yard if you want. The wife is going crazy with the deer eating her garden. They don't even run away when we go chase them out of the garden. You could probably just bring a sling shot to drop 3 or 4 of them. As for the drivers, try to have them done when you come down. I'll turn them while you are here.
