I was reinstalling my speedo censor and noticed my chain case sight glass was 1/2 full. Cleaned every thing off with brake clean, ran the sled on the lift. Low and behold, chain case fluid oozing out of a crack on the inner chain case. Just above the two bolts that bolts the inner case to the tunnel! I've done everything to this drive train for reliability, and now this! I gota be honest. With the warranty being up at the end of this season. An MXZ 900 Turbo Renegade is looking pretty damn good right now!!!

Any chance you hit something ? These magnesium cases are light weight but can not take much of a hit.

If you replace it yourself notice by that crack, when you remove the inner case there is back of rivets sticking out inside, you will see it when you remove inner case. I had a 12 and a 15 that cracked there, I cut the one rivet that was under the case putting pressure there. When the inner case was put in ,it was laying on that rivet back, that’s were I had the crack. Don’t know if that’s your problem, but it sucks with a lot of work to replace. Warranty??

I'm sure I didn't hit any thing. Removed the plastic piece under the chain case, no marks in 8,300 miles. It will be a warranty job, just hope the dealer can get parts. Leaving for Maine on 2/6 for a week!

My local dealer in the Lehigh Valley can't even look at it till 2/12, So taking it down to F&S Yamaha in Hanover Pa. tomorrow morning. I'd do this job myself, but what the hell do I even have a warranty for! I'll definitely put that brace on after the season. Hell I put everything else on it, why not that! Piston Head ,will the factory hardware work, or do I need longer bolts also?Maybe add the Xcr chain case brace to the new inner chain case housing. Artic Cat part# 1607-306

Dealer called me, inner chain case on back order till ""APRIL, Thanks Arctic Cat!!! Country Cat it say's has one on stock, but I can just imagine the #*$&@ show trying to get reimbursed from Yamaha if I bought it and took that one to the dealer!!! He put the issue in the warranty system and I'll get it fixed after the season. In the mean time I'm bringing the sled back home, tear open the chain case. Clean the inside cracked area with brake clean, scuff with coarse grit sand paper, apply a layer of 3M scotch weld 8410 adhesive from the rear heat exchanger guard kit and finally a coat of Ultra Copper RTV. Hopefully that seals it and gets me thru the season.

Have the dealer get the Cat one and bill the Yamaha one. No big deal. Use the Yamaha part number to bill it. I have seen it done before. Even if you have to pay for the part upfront and get reimbursed later. At least you get the free labor. Would be a good time to upgrade the shaft too.
If the company (Yamaha) cares about the customer, it will do what it takes to get you back on the trail.
I have had reps from the company I work for tell me, in a roundabout, wink-wink sort of way, to do just that. Get the customer back in their vehicle as soon as possible, by any means.

Let me to you other parts BO as well. This is a real pain in the #*$&@ job to do. Hopefully they get you back up running.

Well I’m joining the club on a new Cat. I know it’s not a Windèr but the casting on this is junk. This is my new 8000 cat with 189 miles. Found this today. I thought I had residuals from changing case oil to klotz. Been cleaning with brake cleaner. But today I figured it out. Weep crack on the underside in side case! Voodo you want to arm wrestle for the only inner case available in America?
