I recently changed the exhaust donuts in my '13 Apex XTX. The two outside donuts were toast, with about only about a 1/3 of the gasket intact. I replaced them with the copper/brass gaskets. I did not notice any damage to the flanges, but after my first ride since then, at low speeds, or just accelerating from a dead stop, it sounds like I have a bad bearing or like my track is striking ice in the tunnel. It makes a weird almost grinding/striking noise that clears up and goes away at speed. Mileage is down, and every once in a while, once or twice on a 80 plus mile day, I will get a backfire. I this a symptom of a cracked Y-pipe or broken pipe? Just wanted to know what others have experienced for cracked pipe symptoms. Sled is not really much louder. Maybe slight ticking up front, but does have over 9300 miles on her. Best way to look for a cracked pipe- is it to drop the suspension?
Thanks
Rick

When I first installed copper donuts, I found multiple cracks in my flex pipes. I tried buying used and they didn't last a month. I had to buy 4 brand new flex pipes at $100 each. It sucked but now it's like new. Totally worth it. I think the excellent seal that the copper donuts give blows out any weak spot in the flex pipes. Best way to check is to remove the pipes ,put you hand over one end and blow to see if they leak.

So you are recommending remove all the flex pipes from the motor and blow into them?

That's what I did. Sometimes shining a light in there doesn't work.

the new pipes are stainless I believe. It's a lot of work. Also repaired the flange on my silencer.
