Cracked skid rails

I think it's flexing a lot in that area with extensions in place, a lot of stress added compared to a stock sled. On my Nytro it's a sandwich design with steel plates bolted to the rail in this specific pivot point. Not any cracks at all on the LH side

Mooseman I would suggest you do these mods in link and some shock work. I now have 3 trouble free seasons on my skid. I plan to take it out this summer for a real good inspection and rr but am confident the problems are solved. Cannot bottom skid (shocks) and the mods I did (reinforcements) along with Yamaha updated parts works.

Will keep an eye out for your inspection results. I will definitely upgrade to the newer shafts. Checked my H arm on the replacement VL skid and it's still good and the original shaft did survive this season since conditions were a lot better this year. My original MP high pressure gas shock was destroyed and I'm now on a non-rebuildable VL shock. Maybe I can find another one to put back in but in all honesty, my butt couldn't tell the difference in ride quality.

I'm really interested in your bronze bushings setup and the machining you did to make them fit but I don't have the equipment to do it myself. I have to put major work aside for now as I will be building a garage this year (except for basic maintenance of course), as well as 3 other sleds that need work and the Project FX for my younger son. It will be a busy summer.

I hear you. Look for someone with a Lathe. Its pretty easy but is a custom thing to get a nice fit.

I have the same type of crack as goby on my Multi Multi Purpose and it does not have any extensions.

For that particular spot, I wonder if it's just flexing that is causing this. Not too many instances of this happening though but definitely something to keep an eye on.

Wonder of there is a way to re-enforce this spot without getting into welding. Would a large washer do it? Probably better than nothing.

This is what I found on my skid after 11500 km (7146 miles). Bought a used one that should have 800 km (500 miles) on it but it was cracks on that one to.

Those are nasty. I am concerned about the ones at the wheel mounts. Do you have larger wheels or other mods?

I'd say they are repairable. I'd have them welded and sandwich extra aluminum plate welded on to reinforce them.

BTW, your conversion from KM to Miles is incorrect. It's actually 7145 miles.

As far as I know it is all original.

I found "new" rails for a good price and changed them. So the snowmobile is repaired and ready for the snow (that is falling right now). I am keeping the broken ones for the future so I can repair them if needed.

You are correct, calculated the wrong way.
