Did you guys see the new Cat Catalyst?

I am looking at it from a Viper and Grizzly point of view. Meaning changing the engine in Viper and failing miserably and also Putting a Subaru Engine in the Grizzly and failing miserably. Both moves were done without telling the dealers or consumers until they were in hands of customers and failing. If that isnt shifty. What is?
I had one of those Grizzlies. It was a POS.

I have one of those Grizzlies that has the Subaru engine in it and has been a good machine, no engine troubles, 8500kms, not all have experienced this though, lot of smoking problems, but what stands out about the whole thing is Yamaha went out of their way to fix the problem with these engines, got to give them that.

Only those who know.

Mine was a smoker. It took several trips to the dealer to fix the issue. I had issues with my 4wd switch, & leaking shocks. All in the first year of ownership. I sold it and bought a gently used 2015 model that has been a great machine for me. I have almost 4,000 miles on it now.

The fact that Yamaha ditched that motor to go back to the 686 in short order speaks volumes.

Wow, Yamaha actually acknowledged there was an issue. That seems odd since they do nothing about all the chaincase and axle issues on the SW!

Those are Cat problems. We don't know what Yamaha has said internally to Cat about all the issues with the ProCross chassis.

They (cat) has built two chassis several times in years past. Typically a year or two after a new one. Agree they won’t do both for long. Cat has never built motors worth much of anything. Yes the 600 is a cat motor that’s decent, but when I think cat it’s always chassis. Never motors. They have used other motors for ever. I sure hope they get a new 800 motor. But if it’s anything like years past when it was built by them. It’s been junk to say it nicely. Will see. Maybe Yamaha is building this new 880 smoker??
I think the (much sought after today) counter balanced triple 800's, 900's, and 1000's were great motors. They made those for about ten years ( 93 through 02) Rode one many thousands of miles with original pistons and rings with aftermarket pipes and ported. Beat the snot out of it, never ate belts, and saw 120mph on radar whenever we ran it. Great engine. Sadly, the planned1100 version never saw production. The only weakness in those motors were the water pump seals which cost about ten dollars back then and were easy to replace. If you changed them every few years, everything else was fairly bulletproof. The old Suzuki 650's & 700's were also good motors as was the 1100 Suzuki (anvil) turbo through 2016. So, during the past 30 years, I would disagree that Acat had bad motors. Since I don't ride 600's or 800's, I cannot offer commentary about them. I consider those sleds hazards to navigation once the lakes freeze.

Cat & Yamaha is a JV so Yamaha problems also.
Yes, of course it affects both Cat and Yamaha customers. Cat has had this Procross chassis since 2012. They own it. We're not having Yamaha problems with this JV. Yamaha owns the engine and IMO they've done a tremendous job bringing a reliable, well-engineered product to the party. Cat has not IMO. Cat has had 10+ years to fix the problems we all have had to deal with. No excuse IMO. Thank you Yamaha for a great engine!
Cat - shame on you. If/when Yamaha has another path, I wouldn't blame them for divorcing Cat.

We better enjoy our YamaCats while there is some Yamaha dna out there to help justify the Yamaha faithful owning some sort of Yamaha sled!
The horizon is pretty dark looking ahead.
But...being the optimist that I am...its always darkest before the dawn!

We can always hope while enjoying what we have today. I think Yamaha will stay in the game. We shall see

If Yamaha is putting their name on it, it's a damn Yamaha. Yamaha should be making it right before they sell them. To pay top dollar for a Yamaha and end up putting thousands into it to make it 'right' is wrong. I could have bought a thundercat for 5 grand less and used that money to fix the junk.
