Hey guy I was out riding today and I noticed an awful grinding noise I tried to putt her home but it got so bad I quit called a cab got the truck and picked it up. Upon further inspection I believe my driveshaft bearing has craped out on me the chaincase oil has gone very milky. So I am wondering how am I going to change it I have done lots of reading and I can't find a good write up on the driveshaft bearing replacement could someone help me out

well you will need to pull the chain case entirely to do the job.
check the spedo bearing and jackshaft bearing while you have it apart. hate for you to have to do them in a couple of weeks when you have it apart now.

its not that bad at all to take the chaincase apart. mine did the same thing saturday and I had it apart in probably 30 minutes but Ive had it apart before to change the gears, Im going to be replacing the bearing today if my local dealer has it. It really is a simple job

It wont be so easy if the bearing disinegrated and is froze on shaft. You will need to cut it off. You will see it when you take the speedo housing off. If it was making the noise you described, its gone.

I just completed changing all bearing and seals on the whole machine!! The jackshaft bearing on the clutch side completely fell apart... All that was left was the outer race.. We took a piece of steel... abou3/4 wide, and the same diameter as the race (length)... slid it in the center of the race, and tack welded it onto the race... Took a chunk of wooden dowel about the size of a shovel handle... fed it thru from the chain case side (already torn apart) and lined it up with the piece of steel.. and gave it one wack and it poped rite out.. piece of cake!!.
EDIT: get all your hunk of wood, or even a peice of pipe all ready to rock and roll as soon as the weld has stopped glowing... that way the race is still nice and hot.. and it will come out much easier..

geez... u know what... after i replaced all my bearings, I'm also getting a high pitched wine sound.... I've been just ignoring (sorta) it after I re checked the chain tension... I have no idea where its coming from.. I only have about 40% hearing ability, and I don't gear it at all... but my buddy took it for a ride and told me it was there so... I dunno..
