ECP Mod Airbox Round 2

Supertuner.. I did not realize that torque is measured as the vehical moves not as the engine spins..

Ill keep my ecp kit till my sled dies or i sell the sled..LOL

i modded my air box last year and i had to make my owen jets as the sizes that would have needed were not on the market i all so had to add a toqe arm as it would constantly pull the clutch aliment way off as some as you got on the gas hard. the increses in low end torqe was quite a bit improved as i did not have a good test site at the first few runs(3in of slush and water on the ice surface) but i found that it would pull to 110 mph on the radar in a very short run as we were playing in this solp and nether one of us wanted to get off of ower sleds and set down a disance marker.

note that incresing the main jet size did not have any advesrs effect on ether sled fuel milage as on some runs last year we both ran up to 21 mph. and ower price to pay a the fuel pumps was to the penney the same on bouth sled every time.( uncany) b y incressing the mains you compasating for loss in air flow or a loss in vaucm and for this you have to compensat to keep the air fuel rate the same ie 12-1 or 14-1. just as in some of my old 340 two stroke that we ran in super mod we had to run in the 720 - 800 jet range not that it needed more fuel but running 44 mic,s no air box = no vacum signel for the main jets thats all.

Freddie , Green Machine is right. I bought 2 sets for my 2 new 05s and paid my dealer $200.00 to put them on and I dont remember u saying you were having some better comming out before I even got to use these.

Use them! They work great as all of you know. Right now, they still outperform the mod airbox at peak. Last season I only had an idea of what I may try. Finding the right components and performing and testing these mods has been a long and arduous road. These types of things take time sir. Would any of you prefer I wait to release these mod airboxes or better yet, not release them at all? Westinghouse just came out with a new microwave too and you just bought the one you have last year. What to do?

Like I said....this is called "evolution".

Besides...if you all would remember going back some time ago, I did ask if anyone had a sled they would let me test on...particularly an RS/Vector/3 cylinder as this mod will work for those models as well.

I still need someone who is willing to let me test this on that model...all at my expense of course.

I am in Ottawa, I will have an RS Vector very soon. I am about 1 hr North of Ogdensburg, NY.

byoffcr, Freddie is correct when he states it's evolution. Heck, look what Yamaha has done to us 03 owners. Came out with the fixes in 04 for the front suspension and then in 05 came out with a better skid. Will you be pissed at Yamaha if they come out with a EFI in 06? I'm sure no dealer would tell you to wait until next year to buy your new sled...they want the sale now and that is also dependent on them even knowing what is in store for 06.

Robx is right. Things get better over time YOUR STUFF WILL BECOME OBSOLETE OVER TIME. I have the 04 and don't have the monoshock. I'm not pissed at anyone mind you, because thats the name of the game. Things get better with more research, newer products get released and have better effects. The ECP kits still improve performance from all tests that these guys have put up. If something does it a little better or a little differently I say good deal. Am I going to get mad at yamaha cause I don't have the monoshock? Or because my 04 weighs a little more? Absolutely not. Anyone who gets angry over this only makes themselves look foolish.

Keep bringin us good mods Freddie. I was going to get the ECP (after I went to the big east show and got some other mods). Do you think that I should wait now for more of these air box results?

Rockland....please don't think I am kidding! Have ever tried to concentrate when you are touching cloth? LOL

Flipper...I would prefer that you break the engine in for a little while at least on the jackstand. This is the problem. I have some dealer friends around my shop that would let me take one for a few days too but the biggest problem is that theirs are not broke in either. byoffcr...please don't think I was trying to keep anything from any of you. I am very grateful that all of you have put the faith in my abilities and theories with the air kits. Last season, there was no plans of this airbox mod. It was thought of over the summer and I made it only within the last few weeks literally!

Dynarex...I tested the air kit with both. The blue springs outperformed the silvers with the air filters. With the mod airbox, the silvers worked better than the blues.

Yamahnator...I am trying to sir! Regarding the air kit versus the mod airbox...being that you have the time with it being the season it is right now, I would wait. If you are horny enough for some power gain and might be grassdragging or asphalt racing, I would suggest that you purchase an air kit and get it over with.
