Is the four stroke engine braking hard to get used to?

I see the new Nytro has some type of reduction system.

What are your thoughts?
 

It is like anything new. You get used to it and make it work to your advantage. I love the engine braking, its one of the best features of the Yami four stroke. Because two stroke owners see it as different, it must therefore be a negative.

Cat has a system to make four strokes like two strokes and now for some reason Yami is following suit. To me they are ruining a great thing. Why do they want to fix something that isn't broke?

Engine braking is not a negative that need to be overcome. Its a feature that two strokes don't have and should be sold as such. :4STroke:
 
I've been riding for 3 years on a 4-stroker... Reallllllly like the four stroke enging braking.. As a matter of fact.. I rode my wifes V-max 700 once last year and came verrrrrrrry close to going over the corner because I let off the gas and it didn't slow down.... Yup, not good.. MM.
 
If the braking is not desired, I've heard there is a way to make it almost go away by making some clutching changes.
I agree with all said above. I like the engine braking allot. I use it in the corners to my advantage. Once you get used to it, you'll miss it when it is gone.

I had second thoughts at first, but after getting used to it, i love it, it seem as though all you have to do is let off the gas, and it sets you right up for the corner, slows you down, plants the front end, and even wants to slide you right up to the bars, wouldnt want to own a sled with out it now

I love the engine braking,when you get used to throttle control,instead of chopping the throttle and then getting on the gas like on most 2 strokes. You need to ease off on the throttle coming into the turn maybe a little trail braking and you will start to feel the engine braking start to take affect,slowing the track through engine compression.When you learn to anticipate that effect you will be able to ride the engine braking into and through the turn in a drift while applying throttle from the apex rite on out to the exit of the turn.As far as the de - compression feature on the Nytro I would have to ride it ,but I love that engine braking it's like using the rear brake on a Motorcycle coming into a turn.
 
I agree engine breaking is easy to get used too and is nice on trails as mentioned above, but off trail I don't like it as it causes the front to dive. you have to be cautious when letting off the throttle or be aware you may go over the bars.
 
I love the " engine or compression braking" feature on my RS Venture.

It has become a very effective tool once you learn how your sled operates with this feature.

My throttle response (addition or reduction) has become "smoother" and am able to anticipate sooner how much throttle is required as I approach and set up for a turn. Half way through the apex of the turn, or whenever it's comfortable. I smoothly add power and am out of the turn with ease.

I use less hand brake and at times can become quicker and more fluid than those I am riding with who are "pinning and spinning" in turns all day.

To be courteous and give a "heads-up" those that don't have this engine breaking feature, I just tap my brake a couple of times to let them know I'm in the "decel" mode.

Riding comfort levels being equal, it's actually too easy at times to set a pace that is quicker than your riding partners.

Other advantanges:

Big savings on brakes:

In 21,000 plus miles, I still have brake pads left.

I know this style of riding is easier on other sled components as well.

Better fuel economy:

By being smooth rolling into the throttle instead of pinning the throttle greatly saves on fuel.

Fun Factor:

Some may ask; "Well what fun is that"????

Other members of our group have asked me how can I ride into a turn so smooth, and be out of the turn faster than the rest of us?

I'll come up with some "colorful" response, but the real answer is "engine braking".

Bottom Line:

Riding a 1000 lbs of candy apple red all day, it works for me!!! ;)!
 
I too like engine braking. It didn't take me any time at all to get used to it and I think it makes me smoother when riding fast. I'm curious to see how my new Nytro is going to be. Right now I don't think it was a good idea for them to reduce engine braking but I will with hold judgement until I've actually get some seat time.
 
I think it is just like anything else...you get used to it and then do your best to use it to your advantage. Once you ride it and it becomes normal, it will probably take some time to switching off of it.

Been there. Done that a few times in deep powder. Good way to bust a windshield. Good reason to not put trail sticker on windshield. Was kind of funny the second time.
 
it didnt change how i ride but i might be a little unusual. both my 2 strokes had engine braking and it was not a big deal for me to adjust to the 4 stroke as i already had the habit of rolling onto the throttle. a fellow yamaha rider chased me when i test drove a 03 rx-1 with the nessasary upgrades. he knew i was traveling fast to test it out. i asked him when he caught up if he could tell i when past. he said he could barely tell i went past and lemme tell you i was clippin when i went down that trail.
