First off, props to rx001 for coming up with the idea for an engine tensioner.

Due to the tighter tolerances of the RX-1 chassis and engine mounting, I felt something more precise was necessary. Some research and legwork led me to factory parts that perfectly meet the requirements of this application.

I've assembled a prototype "kit" and would be willing to make these available to fellow RX-1 owners for a reasonable price, $99US shipped throughout Canada and the US.

The kit includes adjustable aluminum torque rod with premium rod ends, stainless mounting hardware, and shipping fees.

This torque rod reduces engine movement helping to retain correct clutch alignment for enhanced belt life and performance.

Included are prototype pictures for your viewing pleasure.

If anyone is interested, please PM me.

you can also go to a hardware store and pick up a turnbuckle and bolts for under 10 bucks. suit yourself

Certainly, you can do that grader...However, you can do it that way or the right way.

The turnbuckle option allows slop as the eyelet inside diameter is larger than the bolt outside diameter.

This design allows for zero slop, which the turnbuckle option doesn't. Slop using the turnbuckle option is going to affect center-to-center distance, and thus make the part nothing more than dead weight on the sled.

I spent the money on quality parts and am much happier than I would be with a clothesline tensioner under the hood.

Personal preference I guess...

Follow these instructions and you will have zero slop. I actually had to grind the inside of the eye so the collar would fit in.

it wouldent be much of a tensioner if it had slop in now would it? you obviously need spacers and washers to get a proper fit. anyone that cant figure this out had better buy your kit. ;)!

Why is it that when someone comes up with a new idea for our sleds that some idiot has to get on this forum and downgrade it ? Just give the guy a break, He's trying to put somehing out there that some people might want to purchase but are'nt able to figure for themselves, Ken

maybe because the new idea is not new to some people that have had it on their sleds for a year already, and have shared this information freely with all the members on this site. if a turnbuckle and two bolts is too complexto figure out, then like i said, buy the kit. some people deserve to pay 1000 percent markup with step by step instructions, but i aint one of them. :ORC

Grader you are really truely a piece of work. I never said that it was a new idea and I never ever dreamed of 1000% mark up please show me your way to do math cause with your ideas I may become rich. I added up what the pieces cost and I added 10$ for my time . Its quite simple really and I dont understand what you dont understand. Some people dont want to put a 10$ clothsline tensioner on a 10 thousand dollar sled some people unlike yourself prefer quality. I looked at the turnbuckles at all of the local hardware stores and i looked at getting one machined that was of better quality myself I dont like something that close to a spinning clutch to be weak or brittle or even something that has no locknuts that can viberate loose and cause larger problems. I think you have made your point that you do not like this idea and really I dont care what you say anymore. Anyone that wants to buy this part from me will be a person that wants quality fit and finish the main reason we bought Yamaha in the first place. And grader like I said once before If you have a 10$ head go and buy a 10$ helmet I wouldnt stop you or diss you cause you did that is your personal preferance. When your tensioner rattles off and is laying in the bellypan think of me.

Members of this forum I in no way want to make large sums of money off of you I was offering a product that I thought was usefull and that was my only concern to offer a quality piece for a reasonable price.

Mikey, Thank you for putting together this product... Grader your way out of line.... I would love to see you pull this Sh*t with Supertuner or the others guys that have developed parts for the RX-1, they would dig you a shallow grave and bury you in it..... Mikey never stated it was his idea, matter of fact he started his post by thanking RX001 for the idea....He expanded on the tensioner and made it better..Hopefully for Mikey there will be a market for it.....Good luck Mikey....

Hey Grader BACKOFF :o| Nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything here Mikey is only providing an option to those that are mechanically challenged or don't want to take the time to reinvent the wheel. I have no doubt that there are cheaper ways to do things but quality does mean a lot to many of us here. Myself I had never heard of an engine tensioner until now seems like a pretty good idea, how necessary i don't know, then again i'm no mechanic but i do know the value of a buck! $99 shipped anywhere is not outrageous when you figure you spent 100X that for the sled. Don't be so negative you don't have to buy one and sharing your thoughts on other alternatives is fine but there's no reason to be rude about it ;)!

Grader, Relax....I dont think Mike was out to take anyone, just offering something that could be of use to the users on the site.
