Looking for feedback if anyone has reflashed their ecu on a high boost Nytro (shimmed head). I am a flatlander looking for additional protection but also considering a piggyback controller such as PowerCommander to adjust timing. Goal is to add slight timing for throttle response at low end and remove timing at higher rpm.

This is from Evo site:
"Reduced Timing Flash: In this software recalibration, we remap the timing tables to curve them for a boosted application. We gradually remove ignition timing as rpm increases to eliminate any engine detonation. Depending on the application, the reduction of ignition timing can lower the fuel octane requirements, allow the engine to safely run higher boost and even eliminate the need to run a head shim. A good rule of thumb is that this calibration allows for 2 to 3 more PSI of boost without further engine modification or fuel octane increase. This flash works on ANY Turbo or Supercharged Nytro as long as it utilizes the stock ECU.

  • Remaps the stock timing tables to a more boost friendly curve
  • May allow 50/50 race gas kits to run 91 Octane or allow 2-3 more pounds of boost at the same fuel quality
  • May remove the need to install a head shim on higher boost kits
  • Works with Super Charged or Turbo Charged Nytro utilizing the stock ECU
  • You must send your ECU (located in the nose of the sled) to our Stillwater, MN facility for reprogramming"

I bought into this upgrade all 3 stages. Running 25tx29b 8-9 lbs with fuel pump upgrade etc. First thing I noticed right away was the way it idled on warm .It went way rich into the tens and it wasn't responsive to gems to control idle afrs. 2 weeks later blew the motor, detonated/cracked the middle cylinder . After talking to others here in Ontario I was told that everyone that they new that did this upgrade blew the motors. That was just what they said and I couldn't verify true or not. I ran this sled at that boost for 2 years with no issues , this is the experience I had. I'm running 5.5 lbs on my new sled and I won't do the upgrade again.

Thanks for your input.
