Currently in the process of installing new copper exhaust donuts on my V Lite (~16,000KM)
Here's a few observations and questions:
- The heat wrap on top of the flex joint has completely disintegrated - any suggestions what I can use now? I'm thinking about cutting a piece of regular exhaust wrap to fit. Also maybe wrapping the flex pipes. Would that be acceptable? You can see the burn marks on the shield so this was probalby dangerous!

- While I have it torn down is there anything else I should check? besides the plugs and I'm gonna change the joint on the steering with the two rod ends. (not sure what it's called but there is slop in it.)

- Any other thoughts? This wasn't too difficult but very tedious due to having to remove so many parts and mine is complicated more by the exhaust extension and ice shield on the rear.

thanks for any input,

I would only replace the heat shields with OEM Yamaha parts. I've never heard of anyone having good luck replacing it with exhaust wrap.

I was thinking about using this type of product which sems a lot like what is there now. Would probably have to be doubled due to being very thin (1/32")

Or this stuff which comes in rolls but is much thicker (1/8"). The drawback with this one is that it would be more difficult to get good coverage because of the joints where it is only 3" wide.

This stuff is rated to 1000 degrees F, so I don't know if that is sufficient for this use. Then again the original material didn't stand up either. How hot does the exhaust system get around those flex pipes - anyone know?
